It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ron McCarthy, who died November 24, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Considered a “SWAT legend,” Ron was one of the original directors of the NTOA’s board and played an integral role in shaping the NTOA into its current position as a highly respected training and information resource for law enforcement. His selfless service and contributions to the tactical community at all levels are well known. Few people have done as much to enhance the professionalism and proficiency of law enforcement in general and SWAT teams in particular.
Ron served as a Los Angeles police officer for over 24 years. He was among LAPD SWAT’s earliest and most influential members. He was the owner of R.M. McCarthy & Associates, a training, consulting and marketing resource for law enforcement. He trained more than 30,000 police officers and military here in the United States.
