Biography: Rogers Hornsby is considered one of the greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history.

In 23 MLB seasons as a specialist second baseman, Hornsby played for 7 clubs, notably the St. Louis Cardinals (1915–26, 1933) and St. Louis Browns (1933–37).

To summarise his incredible playing career, he had 2,930 hits and 301 home runs with a batting average of .358 - third only to Ty Cobb (.366) and Oscar Charleston (.364); he won two Triple Crowns and batted .400+ three times; he is the only player to hit 40 home runs and bat .400 in the same year (1922); his batting average in 1924 was .424 which remains the MLB record; he was NL MVP (1925, 1929); 7 × NL batting champion; NL HR leader (1922, 1925); 4 × NL RBI leader; World Series winner in 1926 as player-manager with the Cardinals.

He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1942.
