French screenwriter, director, and producer Plemiannikov, born 26 January 1928; died 11 February 2000, was also a writer, artist, and occasional actor. His best-known films, including And God Created Woman (1956), Blood and Roses (1960), Barbarella (1968), and Pretty Maids All in a Row, have opulent aesthetics and sensual elements (1971)

He met film director Marc Allégret while working at the Theatre Sarah Bernhardt, and they collaborated on several projects, and he became his assistant when he was 19 years old. He worked as an assistant director on Blanche Fury (1948), an English-language melodrama directed by Allegret and produced for a British corporation.

On Allegret's French-British 1950 film The Naked Heart, also known as Maria Chapdelaine, starring Michèle Morgan and written by a number of other writers, Vadim also served as assistant director.

Both the French and the English versions were filmed. Another movie Allegret directed in England, Blackmailed (1951), starred Mai Zetterling and Dirk Bogarde, and Vadim was listed as one of the authors. He also contributed to the book La demoiselle et son revenant by Allegret (1952).

Vadim worked as the assistant director of Allegret's Julietta (1953), a well-known love story starring Marais, Dany Robin, and Jeanne Moreau, and wrote the screenplay and commentary for the documentary Le gouffre de la Pierre Saint-Marti (1953). Together with Hedy Lamarr, Vadim co-wrote Allegret's Loves of Three Queens in 1954.
