A Baby Named Jolene Was Once Left On Dolly Parton’s Doorstep By A Fan

The renowned country music icon shared that a fan once left a baby on her doorstep, wanting Dolly to keep her.

The baby’s name? Jolene.

Dolly mentioned there was even a note that read, “My name is Jolene, my momma has left me here, and she wants you to have me.”

During an interview with Chicago’s Windy City Times, Dolly was asked about the craziest request a fan had ever made of her. Her response was definitely unexpected.

“There are all kinds of things that people ask me to do, but I tell this story, and it’s a true story but freaky. Years ago, when I first started being a big star, I had fans that were fanatical. It was when ‘Jolene’ was a big hit. We came home one day and there was a baby in a box at our gate with a note in it. The note said, ‘My name is Jolene, my momma has left me here, and she wants you to have me.’ Of course, we all freaked out!”

Dolly promptly contacted the authorities to handle the unexpected arrival. However, she mentioned she never received any further information about what happened to the baby named after her hit song, “Jolene,” after authorities took her away.

“We immediately called Human Services and took care of the baby until they got there. We never did know or hear anything about it. I knew nothing else. What do you do in a situation like that?”

Dolly added, “There are some loony people in this world!”

Given that “Jolene” was released in 1973, that baby is likely in her late 40s now, living her life without any knowledge that her mother once attempted to hand her over to Dolly Parton. She might not even be aware that she was once called Jolene – assuming her mother’s claim was accurate.

Dolly has admitted that she occasionally wonders what became of Jolene, though she has never made any attempts to track her down.

“I don’t think that person would ever even know about the way that went down. There was no way to track it, and I didn’t want to. I couldn’t take the baby, and I didn’t want to be involved. I wanted the police and the people involved to know we had nothing to do with it. We just made our statement, but to answer your question, that was the wildest thing.”
