Roger Federer has shared his latest plans for his retirement two months after waving goodbye to professional tennis. The 20-time Grand Slam champion ended his career at the Laver Cup after battling a knee injury for more than two years and is now hoping he can take his family on some more adventurous holidays despite admitting to continuing fears over his knee.

Two months after his farewell at London’s O2 Arena, Federer is looking to the future and sharing his post-retirement plans. The former world No 1 returned from a 14-month injury hiatus for one last match at the Laver Cup, teaming up with Rafael Nadal in the doubles before officially handing up his racket for good.
And the 41-year-old is now hoping to make the most of a less-demanding schedule as he shared his plans for an exciting family holiday. It comes after the Swiss star admitted he was still “scared” to try out other sports for fun given his knee issues, which saw him play just five events between the 2020 Australian Open and this year’s last dance at the Laver Cup.
“As time goes by I will be able to do more trips and we are always planning our vacations and I want them to be really fun. They can become a little bit more creative,” Federer said of his plans during a recent appearance at Uniqlo’s LifeWear day.

And the 103-time title winner even had a destination in mind as he added: “I would love to take my kids to Africa whereas before vacations always had to be relaxing because my life on the road was so busy, but now our vacations can be a bit more adventurous.”
But the Federer family may have to wait before they can enjoy some adventure now that the 41-year-old doesn’t have to answer to the demands of tour life, as he admitted that his troublesome knee still caused some worries. “I'm still a bit scared when it comes to other sports,” he confessed during his time in Tokyo.

“My knees are so-so. So that has to wait.” Federer’s right knee first caused a problem during the 2020 Australian Open as he appeared injured during his semi-final defeat to Novak Djokovic. He then announced he would undergo surgery and be out until the grass season but when the pandemic shut down the tennis tour, he ended his season entirely and had a second surgery.
Federer returned in 2021 but played just five tournaments before ending his season again following a “setback” at Wimbledon and went under the knife for a third time. He had hoped to return to competition but the week before the Laver Cup he finally admitted he had to listen to his body and retire.
