Robin van Persie shows he is still razor sharp at 39 in legends game, with Dutchman scoring twice before delivering pinpoint assist to Jack Wilshere and almost pulling off an outrageous bicycle kick

Robin van Persie, clearly, has still got it.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal star was renowned for his brilliant attacking skills and wonder goals across a stellar career.

And those skills were put to the test again in a legends game on Sunday, with Van Persie named in a World XI against a Rangers line-up at Ibrox.

The visitors triumphed 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller, with the 39-year-old to the fore, scoring twice - including the winner - and recording a superb assist.

And social media footage shows Van Persie nearly scored an unbelievable overhead kick to top it all off.

Van Persie, now 39, then scored the winner in a seven-goal thriller, despite appearing offside

After Jermain Defoe's strike put Rangers ahead, Van Persie equalised with a deft, cushioned header from a Stewart Downing cross, before 'RVP' played an inch-perfect through ball for Jack Wilshere to round the goalkeeper and slide in.

Defoe then levelled the scores with the rebound after his penalty was saved by David James, with Luis Boa Morte and Kris Boyd trading efforts to make it 3-3.

Up stepped Van Persie, who appeared to be in an offside position after Jermaine Pennant's effort came off the post, tapped into an empty net with consummate ease.

But the most special moment came after half an hour.

After a chipped ball over the top from Michael Essien, the Feyenoord coach lined up an audacious bicycle kick and caught it sweetly - but the 'keeper was well positioned to save. 

After the match, Van Persie's former Gunners team-mate Wilshere said: 'I loved it, every minute. 

'It's the first time I've been here you and can feel the history when you walk in.

'They kept the ball really well and made it difficult for us. 

'(Van Persie has) still got it. He looks fitter than his playing days.'

Van Persie won the FA Cup with Arsenal and was a runner-up in the Champions League before controversially moving to their rivals United in 2012.

He scored 30 goals in all competitions that season to help legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson win the Premier League title in his final season before retirement. 

The 102-cap international now works as a strikers' coach for the Dutch top-flight side.
