On the heels of the over-billion-dollar box office success of Barbie, Robbie Brenner has been upped to the president of Mattel Films.
Brenner, whose previous title was executive producer of Mattel Films, joined the company in 2018 after a career as a successful independent producer with credits that include Dallas Buyers Club.
The first film released under Brenner’s tenure at the toy company was the Margot Robbie-fronted Warner Bros title, Barbie. The Greta Gerwig-directed film is the biggest theatrical release of the year, and the biggest box office release in Warner Bros. history, grossing over $1.4 billion at the global box office to date.

Mattel has a deep slate of projects in various stages of development. This includes a Hot Wheels movie with Warner Bros. and producer J.J. Abrams, a Polly Pocket movie from Lena Dunham starring Lily Collins, and projects based on Magic 8 Ball, Barney, and American Girl brands.
