Rita Wilson and her husband, Tom Hanks, still haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19, despite being two of the first major celebrities to be infected with the coronavirus.
Why Wilson, Hanks aren’t vaccinated
Wilson told the “Today” show on Monday that she has felt excited to see so many people get vaccinated. But, she said, she and Hanks haven’t gotten their own doses yet.
- “It’s been so emotional. We haven’t gotten our vaccine yet. How about hearing this for the first time in your life: ‘You’re not old enough.’ It’s like, ‘OK, I’ll take that!’” she said.
- “But we are in line now because so many people are vaccinated and they’re opening up to the next tier.”
Wilson and Hanks are both 64 years old.
History with COVID-19
Hanks and Wilson tested positive for the novel coronavirus on March 11, 2020, according to The Associated Press. The couple was filming an Elvis Presley biopic in Australia when they tested positive.
- The couple was isolated in a hospital in Australia and were told to remain in quarantine, as I wrote for the Deseret News. The couple later returned to the United States at the end of March free of COVID-19.
What’s next for Wilson and Hanks?
Wilson told “Today” that she remains excited for what’s going to happen next.
- “To witness people hugging each other for the first time in a year, grandparents hugging their grandchildren, people hugging their parents, there’s nothing like that. That is truly a gift.”
