Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online It's a surprisingly provocative film that really stretches the definition of summer blockbuster. Rated: B+ Sep 8, 2017 Full Review David Thomson The New Republic Caesar [the main ape] is the reason to see this daft, breathless picture. Jun 24, 2013 Full Review Roger Moore Tribune News Service Audacious, violent and disquieting, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is a summer sequel that's better than it has any right to be. Jan 14, 2013 Full Review Casey Chong Casey's Movie Mania Rise of the Planet of the Apes has everything a modern summer-movie blockbuster should be, blending smarts with spectacles. Rated: 4/5 May 10, 2024 Full Review Germain Lussier io9.com One of the many reasons this film is so incredible is how much it packs into its modest 105-minute run time. Apr 27, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... a terrific character piece, a gripping prison break thriller with a wicked high-concept twist and the smartest action movie of 2011. Audience Member The missing link between the Most Valuable Primate and Planet of the Apes franchises. A pitched prequel, turned trilogy, that serves as the origin story for the ape at the center of the arch, monkeyfuckin’ Caesar! It is a performance capture showcase film that establishes the world and tone for one of the most underrated trilogies of all time, that continues to improve from here. The human subplots are all well written with good performances from the human actors, but it is Caesar’s story at the center of the film. Andy Serkis cements his performance capture icon status with his role as Caesar, as the CGI team works wizardry to map his radiant performance to a CGI chimpanzee. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/17/24 Full Review Audience Member Defenitely a good movie about apes Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/11/24 Full Review Edwin Emmanuel M The film is quite solid, it has several pros and cons but it has more good things than bad, and the truth is that the narrative is quite good. It has a rhythm that is enjoyable and in general is quite enjoyable. The things I liked the most were the development of Caesar, how he went from being a common ape to literally the leader of all the apes. Another good detail is that the moment in which Cesar says "No" is a unique moment that adds a plus to the film, and the scene is very well done. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/24 Full Review Jacob P Not as great as the original 1968 version, but definitely a worthy sequel. The homage it pays to the original while carving its own path is truly something to give it credit for.
