Rio Ferdinand reveals which Man Utd ace will feel angered by England snub as he’s ‘not getting a look in’

Rio Ferdinand reckons Jadon Sancho will be ‘disgruntled’ after being left out of the latest England squad amid his impressive Manchester United form.

The winger struggled at Old Trafford last season following his big-money switch from German club Borussia Dortmund. However, Sancho now appears at home with the Red Devils and is looking more effective in the final third.

He has scored in Premier League matches victories over Liverpool and Leicester City so far this campaign. And Sancho added to his tally during the Champions League win against Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday night.

The Englishman found the back of the net with a left-footed effort which went in off the post. This put Manchester United 1-0 up and they went on to secure a 2-0 victory as Cristiano Ronaldo joined Sancho on the scoresheet.

Many would have been expecting the 22-year-old to make Gareth Southgate’s 28-man England squad for the upcoming Nations League games against Italy and Germany. He appears to be high in confidence and is causing opposition defenders plenty of problems.

However, Southgate announced his squad on Thursday and Sancho did not make the cut. Jarrod Bowen, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka were some of the attackers to gain selection at Sancho’s expense.

Perhaps being left out of the England setup gave Sancho extra motivation for the Europa League clash against Sheriff, and he went on to shine.

During an appearance on BT Sport, Rio Ferdinand was asked about Southgate’s selection, as well as Sancho being left out. He said (via SportBible): “There’s a lot of defenders.

Rio Ferdinand analyses Southgate’s England squad

“I think the only real surprise in there is probably the amount of players that he’s got that aren’t playing regular football at their clubs.

“Given the kind of stance that Gareth had when he got the job in terms of players playing minutes and picking players on form.

“Jadon Sancho will be one player who will probably look at that squad and think I’ve done what’s expected of me as a winger in terms of output, numbers-wise this season and I’m doing better in terms of numbers than other players. And I’m still not getting a look in.

“He could probably feel disgruntled. But I think that squad is a lot of what we would expect.”

Paul Scholes agrees with his former United team-mate. He said on Friday: “Gareth’s picked his players for a reason, possibly from previous squads.

“I think he [Sancho] probably deserves to be in over Jack Grealish at the minute.

“He scored a good goal against Liverpool and showed signs tonight. He’s better when he’s coming inside and linking play.”

Scholes raises a very good point. Grealish opened his account for the season earlier on Saturday by scoring in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Wolves.

However, he is struggling to make a big impact on a regular basis with the Citizens as they have so much attacking talent. Grealish is getting the ball far less than he did at Aston Villa. And this is affecting his ability to create chances.

The wide man remains a top player, but if we’re going on current form then Sancho should probably get the nod.

Meanwhile, Man Utd should have signed Ivan Toney this summer, according to a former striker – who can now see a move to Chelsea materialising.
