The last time Ringo Starr saw John Lennon was a miserable moment before tragedy struck. Over the last four years of Lennon’s life, there were several encounters between him and the other Beatles, with one of them occurring just a month before Lennon’s untimely death.

On November 15, 1980, Ringo Starr, accompanied by his wife Barbara Bach, visited New York, where Lennon lived. It had been a while since Ringo had seen Lennon, but they managed to catch up during Lennon and Yoko Ono’s visit to Ringo’s hotel, The Plaza. What was intended as a short visit turned into five hours of enjoyable conversation and reminiscence.

However, just weeks later, on December 8, 1980, while Ringo was in the Bahamas, he received a shocking phone call from Barbara Bach’s daughter, informing him that Lennon had been shot. Initially, Ringo assumed it was a minor injury, but a subsequent call confirmed the devastating truth.

Reflecting on their last meeting, Ringo expressed to Rolling Stone magazine that despite the occasional long gaps between their encounters, whenever they met, it was always special. That particular visit had been especially memorable for him.

The bond between the Beatles, evident in Ringo’s recollections, underscores the enduring friendship they shared, even as fate dealt them a tragic hand.

Their friendship transcended fame and success, rooted in shared experiences and a genuine connection. Each encounter, no matter how infrequent, was cherished deeply by Ringo and the other members of the band. It wasn’t just about the music they made together; it was about the camaraderie and understanding they shared as individuals navigating the complexities of life. Their last meeting, with laughter and reminiscence filling the air, stands as a poignant reminder of the bond that remained unbroken even in the face of tragedy.
