How did it take five years to release this gem? "Right Place, Wrong Time" sat in the can for a while, but was worth the wait, finally finding its right time and becoming a legitimately great blues album. Really, as blues albums that were actually recorded as albums, it doesn't get a lot better than this. Four Otis Rush originals fit in with covers that include one ballad, "Rainy Night in Georgia," that focuses on Rush's vocals and works just fine. Rush is inspired throughout, wailing away on the vocals and stinging with his guitar. This is a good choice as the disc to represent all that Rush could be. The only problem is the shaky production; everything's a little muffled except the guitar that's right out front. Otherwise, great work.

He ain't no Albert King, he's just a good guitarplayer with a not so inspiring voice...

Yes, what they say is true, this realy IS the best Otis Rush collection since the Cobra sides of his early days. Thoroughly engaging all the way through, with none of the deep disappointments of such routine blues runthroughs as on COLD DAY IN HELL and so on.

There's no question Otis Rush can play The Blues on the guitar, but he's no singer. He doesn't sound depressed. There's also absolutely NO FIRE in his voice. You can't feel that he's laying it all down, right from his gut. Even I can sound more convincing singing about how much my fictitious "baby" has me down. Disappointing.
