We loved Riga old town. It was great to explore all the beautiful, parks, streets and it is very compact city. We loved popping in to the many bars, shops and restaurants. There’s also a great market near the bus station with plenty of stalls and food venues within. Transport is easy due to train and bus stations. There’s not much of interest across the river apart from the massive library. Prices for food and drink are reasonable.

Central Market has lots of history, and the fresh meats, cheeses, fish and pastries are too die for! Our guide was very knowledgeable, and was extremely pleasant and made you feel welcome.

The Town Hall Square has a Town Hall on one side and the House of the Blackheads on the other. There is a marker where the first Christmas Tree was placed here in 1510 and they put a Christmas tree here each year. The House of the Blackheads was a highlight of Riga for us and the town hall Square is very central to the sights and attractions of Riga's old town. There are some good affordable souvenir shops to the northeast of here and there are some very good restaurants in seemingly every direction. We found ourselves walking through here quite a bit and it is nicely lit up at night too. The Town Hall is not open for visitors but there are some small attractions in front and below the Town Hall.

Everyone should visit this museum, which shows what could happen to Ukraine , if Putin prevails and the difficulties of small nations staying independent when adjoining large powerful nations. The museum charts the Russian take over from 1940 to the early 90’s and independence , with a few years of German occupation. Entrance fee is €5 and it's modern, with a lot of information to view. Also worth seeing is the KGB museum in Riga.

The view from the top of this church is pleasant but nothing phenomenal. But then, Riga is a relatively small city.

I found the gentleman in the lift a bit miserable and curt, but I can’t say I would be any more enthused if it was my job to stand in a dark lift all day taking tickets off guests.

Simply an astonishing collection of cars and so many rarities!! Brezhnev's Royce... Russo balt. WOW! WOuld never have thought the museum could hold such vehicles on constant display! Next door there is an active race track too and perhaps at some summer days you can get to visit both in one go. Could be a great set.

The street, and other surrounding streets, highlight the impressive architecture of Riga, where supposedly one third of the buildings in the Centr area are of Jugendstil in appearance.
You will probably get a crick in your neck, and end up taking far more photos than you intended, but this really is an area worth visiting.
Just across the canal from the Powder tower, off Elizabetes Iela (which has many fine buildings too)

Decent monument in the old town of Riga. There isn’t much to see in the actually square (aside from the monument). However the old town in Riga has great sites and shops/restaurants

Interesting museum contained in a meticulously furnished and decorated Art Nouveau apartment. You get to see not only the 'front of house' stuff like the reception rooms and bedrooms but can view the bathroom, wc (made in England!) the kitchen and the maid's room so it is all brought to life.

The basement has an interesting exhibition on the imagined family that might have lived there. It was clever to stand in front of mirrors but to watch live action reflections of each family member checking their appearance before maybe going out or receiving guests.

There were also numerous period decorative items and pieces of furniture on display Small Art Nouveau light fittings hanging from the ceiling of one of the rooms was an interesting display.

The museum staff were dressed in period costume and you could try on certain articles of clothing too.

The entrance and building staircase were also very impressive to see.

Incredibly beautiful church, the inside is amazing. We went on Sunday during mass and the singing was very ethereal. Just make sure you have something to cover your head if you don't want to have to buy a head scarf
