Rangers: Ridvan Yilmaz transformed by Philippe Clement as ‘massive difference’ spotted

Derek Ferguson believes Ridvan Yilmaz looks like a player transformed since Philippe Clement came in at Rangers this season.

The Turkish full-back has finally made the starting spot his own at left-back over Borna Barisic since the Belgian took over and has already far surpassed his difficult debut season in Glasgow.

Ferguson still has reservations over the physicality of the defender given his relatively diminutive stature but admits he has seen a “massive difference” in the 22-year-old in recent months.

However, he still believes Yilmaz is not the sort of player that Clement would ideally go for although he has been impressed with his form during the major revival under the new manager this term.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “He looks a different player under the manager, he looks fitter. He certainly looks better defensively, I’ve noticed a massive difference.

“The only thing that goes against Yilmaz are his physical attributes. He’s not the biggest, I don’t think he’s the strongest in the air.

“When you listen to Philippe Clement you kind of gauge that he likes a certain type of player.

“But he’s getting the best out of Yilmaz, he’s playing pretty well, he’s the first choice at the moment.

Philippe Clement sparks major Rangers improvement in Ridvan Yilmaz

After a fairly miserable first season last term with injury and lack of game time it felt like the fit might not be right and the former Besiktas player could leave.

Concrete interest never truly materialised until he started getting a run in the side after Clement replaced Michael Beale, but his asking price still wasn’t met in January.

For now it is satisfying for Rangers that the player they signed for up to £5million two summers ago [Sky Sports] might finally have come good.

But there could yet be movement at the position this summer and there is no guarantee that he will remain long-term if offers come in.
