Reviews
- I have this CD as well as the original UK Statik CD's ("Rhythm Of Youth" issued in 1984 and "Folk Of The 80's (Part III)" in 1985). Most fans consider the Statik CD's to be the ultimate versions, but this 1997 release does not sound drastically different from either of those. "Rhythm Of Youth" on this 1997 CD is a little louder, and visually, appears to add a little bit of compression. The overall sound and EQ of the "Rhythm Of Youth" tracks is, frankly, hard to distinguish from the Statik CD. Maybe a smidge more bass on the 1997 disc.
"Folk Of The 80's" here does sound different from the 1985 Statik CD, but not significantly different. The Statik disc is, surprisingly, slightly louder than the tracks on the 1997 disc. And the 1997 mastering of "Folk Of The 80's" seems to beef up the bass a noticeable amount, which really wasn't necessary, but it's certainly not overbearing.
The Statik "Rhythm Of Youth" CD has the 4 bonus tracks not included on the 1997 2-for-1 which ultimately makes it the definitive version, but it really does sound nearly identical to the 1997 2-for-1 release. I personally prefer the overall sound of the Statik "Folk Of The 80's" disc, but I can also completely enjoy the 1997 2-for-1 disc. So basically, if you can't afford the Statik discs, the Oglio 1997 2-for-1 is pretty darn close to both of those in sound quality.
This 2-for-1 CD definitely DOES sound much better than the 1996 Oglio "Collection" CD (I have this CD as well) which sounds really thin and tinny.
