Abstract
This article provides a critical analysis of the army fielded by the city of Antwerp, which was subsequently deployed by Maximilian of Austria against the Flemish and Brabantine towns that had rebelled against his rule. A study of the military command, the logistic organisation and the army expenditures reveals that feudal recruitment and the hiring of mercenaries where more complementary in the later medieval Low Countries than is often assumed.
