      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

As dim-witted and lifeless as its undead antagonists, Resident Evil: Afterlife is a wholly unnecessary addition to the franchise.

Emilliano Jr S This franchise needs life. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review Spike G Could have been great but a dumb ending dosent help Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Yudha S Good for now Rating : 8/10 Good Follow my Instagram : @yudhasatria955 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Dick C It's a very good film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, 2010... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review Princess L hehehe woman with guns go brrrrr Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Over 10 years old and I don’t think it’s god awful as many reviews made it out to be It wasn't screened in advance for critics but I had fun with it Slogs in a few places but Milla Jovovich proves she's still a bonafide action heroine battling the undead Happy too they kept the song from the trailer in the actual movie Paul W.S. Anderson comes back in the director’s chair; taking place after the events of ‘Extinction’ Alice makes her way after the Umbrella Corporation where Albert Wesker is in charge of all operations The T-virus has spread worldwide with most of the human population dead or infected becoming zombies Alice and her clones manage to get Wesker out of the way but she becomes human again; after escaping death once more Alice attempts to follow a broadcast signal coming from a place called Arcadia (a so-called safe haven for survivors) Alice then runs into Claire Redfield whom she ended up getting separated during their flight to Alaska along with K-Mart and the others, Claire has her memory wiped from a spider-looking device on her Alice brings her along hoping she’ll remember and they manage to find a small band of human survivors in a fortified prison From then on Alice and the others form a plan to leave and head for Arcadia in finding hope whilst battling more hordes of zombies The action is impressive and the 3D is utilized pretty well Yes there are things that pop up with no explanation particularly the Axe Man during the middle, it’s a boss fight just like it is in the actual video game! I just love how Shawn Roberts is hamming it up as Wesker in every scene he’s in Love that they brought back Claire and introduced her brother played by Wentworth Miller Funny this came out 11 years after The Matrix, guess Anderson was a huge fan He doesn’t skimp on the action and the gore effects so fans of that will get their moneys worth I admit I did get a few jumps even if they were planned cheap and there’s a badass score by Tomandandy However you feel whether this stays true to the source material is up for debate The first movie was fun, hated the second one with a passion, 3 had the advantage of being almost Mad Max, and this one was very enjoyable This is still one of my favorites in the long-running franchise even if they’re not critical darlings Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Ethan Gilsdorf Boston Globe Rated: 1/4 Nov 24, 2011 Full Review Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader True to series form, plot is nearly indiscernible, but this fourth installment in the sci-fi/horror/action franchise created by writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson is the sleekest so far, thanks to 3D and star Milla Jovovich's body-hugging catsuit. Dec 20, 2010 Full Review Jim Schembri The Age (Australia) Bound to please the legions of Milla fans who have doubtless poured over the extras-rich DVDs of the first three Resident Evils, as well as her please-sequel-this gem Ultra Violet. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 15, 2010 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Resident Evil: Afterlife is a moderately watchable sequel, exactly what you expect from a "part four" movie. Rated: 2/4 Aug 9, 2023 Full Review James McMahon NME (New Musical Express) Frankly, this is unacceptable. May 20, 2021 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Hopefully, the most faithful of fans will find the nods to the game amusing, even if the story, characters, sets, and boss fights are all laughably obnoxious.
