Gerald R. “Bummer” Bassett Jr., 52, of Southfield died Saturday June 5, 2021 at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, surrounded by his loving family.

Gerald was born on February 15, 1969 in Great Barrington, the son of Gerald R. Bassett Sr. and the late Bernice (Phillips) Bassett. He was a graduate of the Mount Everett High School class of 1988.

Gerald owned and worked for G.R. Bassett Foundation, now Bassett Foundation, for many years. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, going to Lebanon Valley, and visiting with friends.

Gerald’s main caregivers were his cousin Ricky and his sister Shari. Gerald is survived by his father, Gerald R. Bassett Sr. and his wife Joyce; his son, Hunter Bassett of Sheffield; his daughter, Jamie Bassett of Sheffield; five sisters, Reverend Regina King and husband Konrad of Sheffield, Elina Humes and husband Orv of Canaan Connecticut, Sandra Webber and husband Mark of Sheffield, Shari Beckwith and husband Peter of Sheffield, and Pamela Stealth and husband Sean of Sheffield; his grandson, Jackson Currier of Sheffield; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service for Gerald R. “Bummer” Bassett Jr. will be held Saturday, June 12 at 12:30 p.m in Sheffield Center Cemetery, with Reverend Regina King officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 12 from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at the Birches–Roy Funeral Home, 33 South Street, Great Barrington MA 01230.
