The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) is where all officers in the British Army are trained to take on the responsibility of leading their soldiers. During training, all officer cadets learn to live by the academy’s motto:
‘Serve to Lead’
Other Nations choose to send their personnel to RMAS for Officer training because it is recognised as a world-leading military training academy.
Army Officer Selection Board
The Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB) is the interview process through which you are selected to train at Sandhurst.
Applying to AOSB does not commit you to joining the British Army.

Officer Training
The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is the home of the British Army Officer.
Training at the Academy is challenging but ultimately rewarding. You will leave knowing you've excelled at one of the world's most revered military training academies.
There are several different types of Officer training that are delivered at Sandhurst.
Education
Academic study is an integral part in developing effective and professional military leaders.
The courses provided by the Faculty for the study of Leadership, Security, and Warfare (LSW) Departments are purposely designed to develop an officer’s understanding and analysis of the human, operational and strategic context in which they will work.
University Officers' Training Corps - UOTC
Sandhurst also offers a part-time leadership programme for those studying at university. Gain insight into Army life, from military exercises to skiing expeditions. By joining a University Officer Training Corps (UOTC) which are located across the UK it can help develop you, give you access to training, sport and travel opportunities.
It can give you a real insight into being part of the British Army.
Plus you get paid for your time and it does not commit you to join the Army after university.

Sandhurst delivers a variety of leadership development training to a wide number of countries across the globe.
From international cadets attending the 44-week commissioning course to academics delivering training in-country.

Bursaries and Scholarships
Whether you’re joining as an Officer or a Soldier the Army is there to support you as you learn and develop.
- Standard Bursary - £7000
- Enhanced Bursary - £24,000
- DSUS (Army STEM) Sponsorship - Up to £42,750
Students need to pass the Army Officer Selection Board and join the University Officer Training Corps. Apply by the first Friday of December.

Independent Advisory Panel
The Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst (RMAS) is seeking volunteers to join an Independent Advisory Panel (IAP) focussing on the provision of welfare for officer cadets throughout their time at RMAS. This is an exciting
opportunity to help the Royal Military Academy create the next generation of leaders.
As part of the IAP, you will provide constructive feedback to Academy staff on matters aligned with the Ofsted
framework used to evaluate welfare and duty of care:
- Quality of training and support: the intent, implementation and impact of these on the care and welfare of Officer Cadets.
- Professional and personal development of Officer Cadets: the extent to which they develop and apply the expected personal and professional values and skills.
- Quality of facilities, infrastructure and resources: the impact of these on the experience of the recruits and trainees.
- Effectiveness of leadership and management: the ways senior staff plan and oversee systems for care and welfare during training and their capacity for making improvements.
RMAS are looking for IAP members from outside the military. Experience of safeguarding, working with young adults and managing stakeholders at all levels would be useful. A broad range of experience from the public and private sector will add to overall effectiveness of the IAP. You will be required to pass a standard DBS and a social media background check.
