Isn’t it crazy how literal years of anticipation can be sated in a single weekend? After months of speculation and excitement Netflix finally premiered the first season of Ratched, Ryan Murphy and Evan Romansky’s horror drama about One Flew Over the Cuckoo‘s Nest’s iconic villain.

It’s always fun to watch Sarah Paulson act deranged as she waltzes through another one of Murphy’s twisted worlds. Wondering when you can expect Ratched Season 2? Here’s what we know.

Will There Be a Ratched Season 2?

There certainly will be. When Netflix announced the horror drama way back in September of 2017 it gave the projects two seasons straightaway. Much like with Season 1, there will be nine episodes in Season 2. Ratched comes from Fox 21 Television Studios, The Saul Zaentz Company, and Ryan Murphy Productions.

When Will Ratched Season 2 Be on Netflix?

Ratched has had a longer production window than most of Murphy’s shows. It took an entire year for the mega-producer to secure the rights to the iconic villain. Even after doing so casting wasn’t announced until around December of 2018. That implies it takes more than a year and a half to create a new season of Ratched. Considering that COVID-19 has put all of Hollywood on pause, it’s impossible to say exactly when we can expect new episodes. But it will likely be a couple of years.

What Could Happen in Ratched Season 2?

Get ready for an unhinged sibling face-off. To recap, Mildred ended Season 1 trying to murder her brother Edmund (Finn Wittrock). Why? To put him out of his misery before the state sent him to the electric chair. Her plan didn’t work, and Edmund escaped Lucia State along with the personality plagued Charlotte (Sophie Okonedo) and the former motel owner Louise (Amanda Plummer).

While all of this was happening, Mildred fled to Mexico with her new girlfriend Gwendolyn (Cynthia Nixon). By the end of Season 1 two years have passed since Mildred has last seen her brother. After he murders seven nurses as a sort of perverse warning, Mildred finally talks to Edmund. But instead of rolling over and accepting his threats Mildred issues one of her own. She vows to find Edmund before he finds her.
