On March 1, 1896, the Ethiopian Empire etched its name in history with a resounding victory at the Battle of Adwa. This decisive clash against the invading Italian forces not only secured Ethiopian independence but also shattered the myth of European invincibility in Africa.
Facing the largest and most well-equipped European army ever deployed in Africa at the time, the Ethiopians displayed remarkable courage and unity. Even those in rebellion against the government rallied behind Emperor Menelik II, demonstrating the nation’s unwavering resolve to defend its sovereignty.
