Randeep Hooda opens up on how he landed a role in Chris Hemsworth’s 'Extraction'

Randeep Hooda is eyeing the release of his next film Swatantra Veer Savarkar. The actor, through the film, is also making his directorial debut. Hooda is currently on a promotional spree for the film. Recently, he attended the trailer launch event of the film in Delhi where he recalled his remarkable journey to securing a role in the Hollywood film Extraction. Notably, Extraction is headlined by Chris Hemsworth and also features David Harbour in the prominent role.

Speaking to India Today during the trailer launch of Swatantra Veer Savarkar , Randeep Hooda shared, “It was simply through an audition that I gave, which I’m not good at. I’m very thankful to the Russo Brothers and Sam Hargrave, the director, who chose me. I’m not very good at auditions. But, I got through it.”

Randeep Hooda, in Extraction, played Saju, a former Para (Special Forces) Lieutenant Colonel. Elaborating his role further, Hooda also shared he could do another part in the film but he chose to play Saju to challenge the prevailing international image of Indian actors that they primarily portray non-action roles. The Sultan actor wanted to break away from stereotypes and he expressed gratitude to ‘Extraction’ for providing him that opportunity.

Randeep, then, went on to praise his co-star, Chris Hemsworth, in the film as he said, “He’s great. He’s very funny. He looks very tough, but he’s hilarious and a very nice guy. And he is the quintessential superstar of the world, not just one country, but a very down-to-earth and very, very humble, sweet man. I really enjoyed working with him.”

Chris Hemsworth headlined ‘Extraction’ narrated the story of a mercenary hired to rescue a kidnapped Indian boy from a Bangladeshi drug lord. The film caught significant attention in India for the parts played by Indian actors, Randeep Hooda, Rudhraksh Jaiswal, and Priyanshu Painyuli.

Meanwhile, Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and Randeep Hooda Films, in collaboration with Legend Studios and Avak Films. The film is set to be released on March 22, 2024.
