Ralf Rangnick: Manchester United's Problems Were Clear After Two Weeks

accreditation

Two months after his departure from Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick has insisted that the problems the club was suffering from were clear to see after just two weeks.

Rangnick was brought to Old Trafford in November 2021 to salvage the season following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal from the hot seat.

Unfortunately, things did not get much better under the German tactician and the Mancunians as they would go on to have their worst-ever season in the Premier League.

The former RB Leipzig manager has now reflected on his time in England, and seemed to suggest that he was not given the time or resources needed to remedy the problems that plagued the club.

"After just two weeks it was clear to me where the problems were and what would have to be done to fix them – but the question is whether you have the option of changing these things," Rangnick told Der Standard.

After the 2021/22 season concluded, the 64-year-old was set to assume a two-year consultancy role at United but following the disastrous end to the campaign and with tensions within the club rising, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo, Rangnick opted to take on the Austria head coaching position full-time instead.

With Erik ten Hag having since taken over at the Theatre of Dreams, he is already beginning to put his stamp on the side by making some big decisions, including dropping captain Harry Maguire and the club's top goalscorer last season, Ronaldo, to the bench.
