Elvin Bishop is not only a great musician, but a stunner on stage. I just saw him for the first time at Wintrhop Blues Festival and his live performances will bring the house down. What a character he is, funny and full of life- still rocking after all these years and raising hell. This CD is a great example of his live performances and is a fun CD to have in your collection whether you are a rock and roll or blues nut. The CD is an earlier version of his current repetoire but the classic, "fool around and fell in love" is on this CD and worth the price. Travelin shoes, Give it up and Rock my soul are also included and a lot of fun. Elvin has his own way of doing things and this CD is a good example of his music and performances.

Many years ago, i had this on LP on Capricorn Records, and over the years it disappeared. I have been looking for this recording in hopes that this GREAT performance would Finally come to cd format, and it has..!!! Without a doubt, one of the finest live shows ive heard...Not only is this Just about Elvin Bishop, but his stellar first class band as well..Mickey Thomas (from the Jefferson Airplane) vocals simply soar with Elvin's guitar work. The rest of the band, are ALL top notch studio players. Buy this, and you will NOT be disappointed...Elvin was just nominated again for the 2006 Blues Music Awards (formerly known as the W.C. Handy ) for best album...Funny that we still call cds albums, and lps...but that was the category in which he was listed. Get Elvin Bishop's "Raisin Hell..Live" You'll be glad you did.

Just jump in and have some fun with Elvin Bishop. Great party album with an unreconstructed good times blues/rocker.
How can you go wrong with an album that includes "Calling All Cows"? Some of his classics, like "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" and "Juke Joint Jump", and several I hadn't heard before, performed live. I would have liked to have been there - it has been a long time (um, quite a few decades actually) since I last saw Elvin Bishop live, but he sounds just as good as I remembered.

Rockin' Your Funky Soul!

This live album was the perfect format to showcase Elvin Bishop's brand of good time music. Lively, fun and funky, rockin' soul with some bluesy licks; Bishop and his band strut their stuff in front of an appreciative audience and the results are very satisfying indeed.

What I've always loved about Elvin Bishop is the infectious and positive energy that he exudes in his music and that emotion is pervasive on this live album (it used to be a 2-LP set back in the days of vinyl but is now on 1 CD). As much as I love Bishop --- his personality, his guitar playing, and even his singing --- I have to admit that I'm not as big a fan of Mickey Thomas, the other band member who handles lead vocals on some of the songs. Thomas has a fine voice, but too often during this recording all of his shouts of "oh yeah!" and urging the audience to join in becomes more than a bit tiresome.

That reservation aside, Elvin Bishop is the real star here and the real reason you need to have this CD. Good for you soul indeed!

first track on! I played it on my car CD player while traveling with a friend, and he immediately remarked that he loved it. He said he had grown up listening to those songs. I now have several Elvin Bishop's CD's
in my collection and have ordered two more. I can't wait for them to arrive, which should be this week. This is the best of his releases that
I have listened to so far! Buy this one, you will not be disappointed!

My brother had this on vinyl when it first came out. Loved it then and love it now
Elvin and the band were having a party and even though it is years later you can join the fun! It still rocks the house and what talent he has in the band. Everything a live album should be. Charlie Daniels said of Elvin that 'he ain't good lookin' but he sure can play' and Mr. Fiddle was right on the mark about the playing!
Youngsternators you might like it too! I Played Rock My Soul for some high school kids and it became a favorite.

Elvin Bishop en concert, c'est de l'énergie,du rock, du blues et du rythm'n blues aux taquets. Inutile de répéter qu'Elvin Bishop est un guitariste excellent et inventif. Accompagné par de fameux musiciens, ça envoie du bois. Perso, j'aime ce que fait Bishop même si, il faut le reconnaître, il y a eu de tout dans la carrière du bonhomme qui a commencé, je le rappelle, à la fin des 60's Ce type a donc eu le temps de ratisser large. Pourtant il y a toujours ce son blues chicagoan qui est unique et qui oblige à taper du pied.
Inutile de se compliquer la vie: Elvin Bishop et ses musiciens sont là pour nous faire rigoler et pour nous donner du fun!

I saw Elvin on BBC4 on their 2012 Southern Rock documentary & was taken by his lively style & excellent musicianship & never having really considered Southern Rock as a genre took to it immediatley & wanted to know more, so bought this & for a live album it is very well engineered & you get a good feel for him as a live act. This is a 1977 recording & it is still fresh & if you want a good intro to him as an artist - buy this. He must be good he's still going strong in 2013!!!

I have brought this on CD although I have it on vinyl because it's great fun music and a great Live Album with good atmosphere, a good selection of songs and his on stage patter between songs is a real hoot ( he does have a way with words) but if your thinking I only want to buy one Elvin Bishop album then this is the one to get as he's at his best..........
