RON GEESIN - A RAISE OF EYEBROWS/AS HE STANDS
(See For Miles SEECD 433) CD 77m
The realm of the: eccentric poet and musical experimentalist, may mainly be dominated by women, yet much earlier than the likes of Lady June or Gilli Smyth, Ron Geesin was blubbering nonsense and startling people with his creativity from way back in 1967!
This CD crams in Ron's Transatlantic Records debut LP from 1967, the extraordinarily eccentric A RAISE OF EYEBROWS, and his first self-produced release AS HE STANDS, from 1973. In between these albums, Ron had directed the Pink Floyd opus Atom Heart Mother and collaborated with Roger Waters on the MUSIC FROM THE BODY album. But, these solos when played together like on this CD, show Ron's genius as an innovator even more so, as we progress from the total lunacy that starts A RAISE OF EYEBROWS and gradually gain a more musical focus. Advanced techniques of multi-tracking, collage, electronic processing are all parts of his oeuvre, wit and surrealism abound in patchwork of prose, imaginary conversations and theatrics, along with music that runs the gamut from honky tonk piano, via blues and skiffle, onto electroacoustic realms and synthesizer music.
In all, a great value CD, and a great collection for cheering up a dull day. What we need now is Ron's greatest achievement RIGHT THROUGH.
