The Minot Railroad Museum concentrates on displays of regional railroading that helped develop Minot. It has three display rooms full of memorabilia; a basement features a model railroad layout. Entry is free, but contributions are accepted. June through August, the museum operates a 2/5 scale Great Northern locomotive that pulls passenger cars through Roosevelt Park. We met about eight railroad enthusiasts in railroad garb with railroad logos on their shirts and caps. They were all very friendly, they asked where we were from, and they encouraged us to ask about the displays. One gave us tips about other local attractions and told us the rodeo was in town.

We were impressed with this museum. The displays are all very nice. My 2 and 5 year olds enjoyed the experience too. They have a table upstairs with some battery-operated Thomas trains which were fun for my boys. There are also a few hands-on whistles, bells and displays. My husband and I both found it to be an interesting place to visit. It is free and they have donation boxes if you wish to donate.

The outside of the building is rather unassuming, but the effort that these volunteers have put into this labor of love is apparent. The displays have been nicely thought out and since this is a Very Hands-On type of facility I would recommend it for anybody that would have a Railroad interect and are in the area. One issue is that it is only open on Saturdays

The views from the train were restricted, as much of the journey was going through tree-lined areas. The commentary on the way up to talkeetna was very poor and disinterested - better on the way back from talkeetna to anchorage.
The breakfast on the way up to talkeetna was cold and poor quality - so much so that we didn't even bother with food on the way back to anchorage. Very disappointing given the cost and hype of the gold standard on Denali express. The result was a disappointment given the cost involved. Frankly not worth it

We took a chance on this museum and weren't expecting much. Boy were we surprised! This doesn't look like much on the outside and is only open for a few hours on Saturdays. But it's actually a really cool old railway building and PERFECT for our 3 boys under age five! The upper level has a kids area with tons of Thomas trains and activities. The main level has lots of interactive displays and wonderful volunteers. But the basement you can't miss. Huge model train display! We hope to come back soon.

My husband and grandson absolutely loved the museum! My grandson loved putting on the conductors hat and standing on the train.

We stopped by here and had fun looking at all of the items on display. We got there an hour before closing so didn't have a lot of time to thoroughly review. Wish outside train cars were open for viewing but they weren't. Model track in basement was fin to watch. One room was still being worked on.

My grandsons ages 7 & 10 as well as myself were given a personal tour of Museum the Monday after Christmas. The displays as well as the kids to be able to interact with the exhibits were great. We definitely would recommend this museum for the young and old alike.

My daughter and I took a tour of the Railroad Museum and it was such fun. The volunteers were very knowledgeable about trains and excited to show us around.

My son and I visited this museum which has some great old pictures of the Old Soo Railroad trains and such. The staff are friendly and they even blew the old train whistles for us. Lots of neat old train stuff if you are a train buff. The kids will love it and it is free but you can make donations which they greatly appreciate. They have nice goody bags for the kids as well.
