I am not terribly familiar with Junkie XL except for the song "Billyclub" (I think that is the name of it) from a few years ago. I wasn't too terribly impressed by what I heard. When late last year I heard that former Republica singer Saffron was going to sing on some of the songs on the Junkie XL album, my curiousity was piqued. I absolutely loved Republica when they first came out (hated their second album "Speed Ballads"). I decided to buy the new Junkie XL cd today. I was also psyched to see that The Cure's Robert Smith and Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan each contributes to a song on the album ("Reload" and "PerfectBlueSky"). I personally love "Radio JXL". The album was chockful of danceable techno beats and melodic vocals. The songs that Saffron contributes her vocals to eerily reminds me of Republica's music. It was great hearing her again for the first time in a few years. I particularly loved the songs that Saffron sang on "Crusher", "Spirits", and "BeautyNeverFades". I absolutely loved the song that Robert Smith sings on "PerfectBlueSky". I thought it was very interesting to listen to his unique vocals set to a different sound. Another favorite track of mine is "Angels" which legendary synth-pop godfather Gary Neuman contributes his vocals to the song. The song is very catchy and upbeat. I enjoyed all of the songs except for the Elvis Presley remix "A Little Less Conversation". Never liked the original version, didn't like the remix version even more so. Plus it sounded out of place on the cd for me. The second cd was awesome as well. I was somewhat worried that it would be a pretty useless cd but the music turned out to be just as good. I really enjoyed "Radio JXL". It is a good mixture of techno and rock music.

Junkie XL is one amazing producer and he lets his talents shine on "A Broadcast from Computer Hell." The first disc starts off with one of the best tracks on the album; "Tennis" It then moves on to some very catchy and great tracks That never seem to get old. By midway, "PerfectBlueSky" comes on with a beautiful melody accompanied by an amazing vocalist; Robert Smith. The 3PM cd even includes an Elvis Remix!
The second CD; "3AM" is the Calm after the storm. It takes things to an after hours level with too 12 inch cuts of two of the tracks on 3PM (Angel and Perfect Blue Sky). It also features a track with Sasha. This CD is very good and features a variety of tracks. This CD truly has something for everyone.

I caught him performing on DTV pay per view at this year's Ultra Music Festival in Miami, in 5.1 ... well, he rocked. Hey, why did DirectTV list the show, weekends through the July 16... I was lucky to catch the first weekend. Incredible show :)

I've been a fan of Junkie XL since 'Saturday Teenage Kick in 1998' and I was very disappointed by this album. This is Junkie XL going mainstream, by forgetting the music that made them great and opting instead for a more pop sound. It doesn't work. With a few exeptions 'Access To The Excess', 'Angels' this album isn't worth listening too, and even the best tracks on here can't compare to their previous work. Go and buy 'Big Sounds Of The Drag, or 'Saturday Teenage Kick' instead.

This album has guests that only a few djs could dream of Robert Smith, Peter Tosh, Dave Gahan, Chuck D, Gary Numan and many others. The tracks all revolve around techno style dance music but it would be a shame to just label the cd as techno. It has dub ....peter tosh of course. It has lilting meandering dream music with the sound of long lost childish angst (robert smith) and it has 2discs.
A third disc is available on the web only from the Junkie XL website.

If you are a fan of Saturday Teenage Kick and Big Sounds of the Drags I have a feeling you'll be a bit disappointed in this album. STK and BSoD were very much Rock/Dance hybrid records while "a broadcast from the computer hell cabin" seems to be much more tamed and low key. A lot of the tricked out drums, wicked effects and grungy vocals that made Junkie's previous albums stand out are gone. Overall it's well produced but not what I expected and doesn't make it into my favorites category. I miss the old Junkie XL.

Great album, grown up from Big Sounds of the Drag

Admittedly I only have that one other Junkie XL album to compare with, but this is a much more "mature" sound. Where BSotD is about energy and stomping choons, this is more about creating a well-considered feel on each track- to great effect. Still dance / Big Beat but with a bit more intention behind it. Some tracks are simply outstanding and if he could do a whole album with Saffron (Republica) I'd buy it in a flash! Others are simply, well, great. I got the special edition with the 2nd CD; CD1 certainly gives you enough to listen to, CD2 just gives you a greater variety... but on the basis I love what he's done here, I'd go for the special edition every time!
