Where Is Rachel Covey? Theories on Why 'Disenchanted' Recast Morgan Actress

Where Is Rachel Covey? Theories on Why 'Disenchanted' Recast Morgan Actress

Fifteen years after the original, the highly anticipated sequel to Disney classic Enchanted is finally here.

Disenchanted sees the return of Giselle, played by Amy Adams, the naive princess-to-be who traveled from the animated fairytale land of Andalasia to real, live-action New York in the 2007 film.

Enchanted also starred Grey's Anatomy's Patrick Dempsey, Dead to Me actor James Marsden and Frozen star Idina Menzel, with all three returning for the new installment.

By the end of Enchanted Giselle and Robert had fallen in love and were set to live happily ever after with Morgan.

Now, in the Adam Shankman-directed sequel, fans will see what the couple have been up to since we last saw them, though there has been a switch up for one character as the role of Morgan has been recast.

Newsweek has everything you need to know about why Enchanted actress Rachel Covey has not returned for Disechanted.

What Is Disenchanted About?

In Disenchanted, Giselle and Robert are married and now have a baby girl but Giselle is fed up of living the city life in New York.

The family decide to move to "the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville" in search of a more fairy tale life but, unfortunately, things do not go as smoothly as planned.

On top of that Morgan, Robert's adorable daughter from the first movie, is now a very snarky teenager who is not happy about moving away from the city and her friends.

According to Disney's official synopsis for the film, the family's new home has "a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever."

Giselle, frustrated that her happily ever after hasn't been so easy to find, turns to the magic of Andalasia for help but accidentally transforms the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and places her family's future happiness in jeopardy.

Now, Giselle "is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family."

Why Is Rachel Covey Not In Disenchanted?

One reason for Covey's absence could be the fact that she is no longer an actress, and has instead pursued a career path as a playwright and composer.

According to her official website Covey graduated from Northwestern University in 2020 and has since written two original musicals, called Painting Faye Salvez and Noise.

Both of the projects have received readings and workshops at the New York Musical Festival (NYMF), the Library at the Public Theater, Tuacahn Theatre's New Works Festival, Emerging Artists Theatre's New Work Series, Common Ground Theatre Company, and The Chicago Dramatists Guild.

The role of Morgan could also have been recast due to the age of the character.

Morgan was just six years old in Enchanted and, although 15 years have passed since the first film, in the sequel she pays a teenager.

This suggess that the events of the film perhaps don't take place 15 years after the first, if that were the case Morgan would be 21, or that the age of the Morgan character has been changed for the storyline.

Original Morgan actress Covey is now 24 years old, so, even if she was still an actress, Disney perhaps wanted a younger actress to play the teenage character.

Gabriella Baldacchino, who plays Morgan in Disenchanted, is 20 years old but was 19 at the time of filming.

Newsweek has contacted representatives for Disenchanted and Disney for comment.

Disenchanted, and the original movie Enchanted, are available to stream on Disney+.
