The government also provided assistance on Disney’s 2009 live action family film Race to Witch Mountain, despite the film’s plot drawing extensively from UFO mythology (with references both to Area 51 and Roswell) and despite its presentation of a sinister government cover-up. Working within the narrative constraints of the film’s previous incarnation, Escape to Witch Mountain (1975), director Andy Fickman – a self-confessed UFO enthusiast – took pride in infusing his remake with as many elements as possible drawn directly from UFO literature.
When Fickman received the script from Disney it had been “more of a comedy,” but the director felt the material should be treated seriously and wanted to make use of events,…
I watched this movie just because of AnnaSophia Robb, but unfortunately the whole movie was so disappointing.
If anyone is actually searching for a nostalgic, family throwback to the seventies' Disney flick of the same name, then they'll find this film sorely unhelpful and lacking in anything worthwhile, considering this remake is completely different from the many that came before it. However, Race to Witch Mountain features the ever reliable faces of Dwayne Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb and Carla Gugino (Cato also makes an appearance) who perform their one-dimensional roles as well as they could with the limited material on offer, some fun moments, and as little realism as possible. For a family looking for genial family fun, this is completely serviceable (a decidedly average affair, sure, and lacking in characterization, depth and intelligence). Just sit back and enjoy the ride, ya loser. Also, it went by, like, super fast.
So I pretty much only watched this because of the meme. I first saw a variation of it years ago and recently one of my friends sent me a quarantine related one.
Anyway, this movie has no witches in it, so the title is a bit of a mislead. They do go to a place called Witch Mountain, but the name isn't relevant to the movie's theme, so I guess it just sounded cool?
Back when he still had hair, the Rock drove a cab in Las Vegas. One morning a couple of kids appear in his back seat and ask to be taken to the middle of nowhere for a huge wad of cash. Of course they turn out…
No one can convince me that this ISNT part of the Taxi Driver/Transformers/Predator multiverse
Two teenage alien siblings crash-land in the middle of the Nevada desert. With government agents hot on their heels, they hire a Las Vegas cab driver to take them to a secret installation and retrieve what they came for.
You know what's worse than a boring movie? A boring family-friendly movie. And that's exactly what this insipid remake of a little-known old Disney feature is: boring. And lazy. I find it hard to believe that even kids, which are obviously the primary target group of this film, will find much to enjoy. The action is lame and the humor is lamer. The heroes are likable but forgettable. The story is dumb. The shoehorned romance is telegraphed from the beginning and…
Rebooting a stale Disney never-quite-classic for a new millennium, "Race to Witch Mountain" only need add energy or personality to out-do its progenitor. Thanks to a charismatic Dwayne Johnson, the 2009 science-fiction adventure does just that. Essentially a 90-minute chase sequence featuring government agents on the trail of alien youths who boast extraterrestrial powers, the film moves quickly with a lot of zeal and not much story. Still, thanks to its cast and zippy pace, the work makes for a pleasant, lightweight experience.
RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN was ok film not good tho thought it too boring the performances are meh
I had plans to watch something else, but my 9 year old wanted to watch a movie together, so we chose this.
For what it was and wanted to accomplish, it was ok. I never saw the original movies, so I’m not sure how they compare, but this had the modern popcorn movie schematic.
2009 was still somewhat early in The Rock’s movie career, so he was toned down, both in size and movie presence. He still got to throw a few punches and had a few one liners, but nothing crazy.
The film itself was a bit ridiculous at times. Not that it wasn’t fun, but it was just a bit over the the top. Not a chance that taxi would be running after the first initial scene on the deserted highway. Well, that’s showbiz, baby.
WE DON'T THINK IT IS OUR SPACESHIP. WE KNOW IT IS OUR SPACESHIP.
