Russell Brand Re.Birth, Расселл Брэнд: Второе рождение
Three things about Russell Brand, on his latest comedy special-
1) He cheerfully seems to find himself as exhausting as others do, if not more so.
2) He's here to help.
3) He's still a very good story teller. This thing is worth watching just for the Bag of Soup story alone, is what I'm saying, even if all the fatherhood stuff doesn't do it for you (although I found that thread moved pretty smoothly from predictable to profound)-- so, while this thing's got some rough edges, it's more than balanced out by the Bag of Soup (or the other bits of self-reflection, to be fair)
I seem to be in a pretty small minority in actually liking Russell Brand's philosophy-laden stand-up. Brand has always been guilty of being self-indulgent and up his own arse at times, but he's also funny too. This routine focuses on Brand's newly found role as a father, and yet again he delivers with gusto. His brand of humour, no pun intended, is both silly and profane, with his own self-importance obviously part of his schtick, and it works. His activism has brought him ridicule from most here in the UK, it seems hard to believe in some of his revolutionary views on everything from wealth inequality to fake news, Trump to Cameron, and political views on austerity and the damage…
i went to school with 2008’s highest paid russell brand impersonator so i feel some sort of strange need to watch russell brands special form of shite whenever he resurfaces

I made that noise you make when you find something funny about ten times. Russel Brand could quite easily make a proper eye-opening standup tour which makes you think but what he does just comes off as very lazy.
every time he would burst into one of his slam poetry-esque rants he would talk so fast, I couldn’t keep up... Russell ... sir ... PLEASE slow down
This is what it looks like when a tiresome, narcissistic attention seeker talks about being a tiresome, narcissistic attention seeker in perhaps the most tiresome, narcissistic attention seek-y way possible.
russell brand is nothing without matt morgan and mr gee...... bring the podrot back... again...
Never saw a Russell Brsnd standup special before this. Turns out I don’t like him. He occasionally makes jokes, but he’s mainly concerned with waxing off philosophically about his world views in the most self-indulgent way possible. The jokes he makes aren’t even that great, I might have slightly chuckled a couple of times. I can see dumb people considering this to be smart comedy.
The manic energy is still exceptional, and his ability to deconstruct his own behaviour in ways both critical and authentic is as hilarious as it is purely magical, which allows even the more dry moments of RUSSELL BRAND: RE:BIRTH to stick the landing on nearly every one of it's hyperactive punchlines. Consistently funny, and it's very clear that Brand is one of the most talented, and intelligent, comedic writers out there; I just, once again, wish the format of stand up comedy fit perfectly with his signature brand- pun intended- of self-analytical chaos, although his implementation of media footage to serve his jokes is inspired beyond words. At his best when he's in the thick of the jokes, a little more unengaging when he settles into a flurry of words that resemble a rant more than a message. I hope he makes another special soon. Almost a 3.5.
As an unashamed fan of the marmite figure, Russell Brand, I was disappointed to find his return to stand-up after trying to start a revolution on YouTube is far from his best work. The quick jumps from righteous, verbose rants to crude humour don't always gel all that well, but Brand's energy and self-deprecative (albeit humble-bragging) attitude ensures that even though Re:Birth might not be laugh-out-loud funny, it is at least constantly amusing.
