The crime scene investigations in Las Vegas are over at CBS. Following reports that CSI: Vegas was in serious danger of getting canceled, the bad news has now been confirmed, as CBS has axed the CSI sequel series after three seasons.

Per Deadline, CSI: Vegas was one of two shows to get axed on Friday. So Help Me Todd has also been canceled, and this news comes as a bit of a shock, as it had been a solid ratings performer alongside CSI: Vegas. However, compared with the other shows on CBS, they were still the least-watched drama shows on the network for the Spring 2024 season. With so many other CBS shows getting renewed, and with new shows like NCIS: Origins, Watson, and the Matlock reboot debuting in the fall, the axe had to fall somewhere, sealing the fate of CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd. Worse yet for fans of both shows is that there are no plans to continue either of them on Paramount+.

CSI: Vegas actor Matt Lauria tells CBR how devastating news for Josh Folsom in Season 3, Episode 3, "Rat Packed," is a creative gift for him.

Along with this news came a fortunate update for fans of the new series Elsbeth, as CBS renewed the show for a second season. Queen Latifah's The Equalizer remains on the bubble, but it's reportedly expected to be renewed in the near future. CBS previously renewed the Australian spinoff NCIS: Sydney, which was followed by the main NCIS series getting renewed. The last major show to remain on the bubble is NCIS: Hawai'i.

The CSI Franchise Goes Dark Again

CSI: Vegas was a revival of the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation series that ran from 2000 to 2015. William Petersen and Jorja Fox both reprised their roles, respectively as Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle, for the launch of the new show. Both left after the first season, and Marg Helgenberger came in to reprise his role as Catherine Willows starting with Season 2. Other guest stars from the original show's cast include Wallace Langham, Paul Guilfoyle, and Eric Szmanda. The show also starred Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria, Mandeep Dhillon, Ariana Guerra, Jay Lee, and Lex Medlin.

This was the fifth show that was a part of the CSI franchise, following the original series, Miami, NY, and Cyber. While Vegas getting axed means there won't be any CSI shows on the air, a connected series could be getting a revival of its own. It was recently reported that a Cold Case sequel series is in development. Danny Pino's Cold Case character, Scotty Valens, previously appeared in CSI: NY, revealing a connection between the franchises.
