It was ok it had good classes and teachers but it definitely wasn’t the best school but it was good enough.
Whetstone is a full-service, neighborhood high school located in Ohio’s largest urban school district. The teachers appear to enjoy teaching and interacting with students. The school offers four AP courses and a number of college courses that are held at the high school campus. Students from Whetstone also take college courses on campus at Columbus State Community College and The Ohio State University while enrolled at Whetstone.
Many students are involved in JV and varsity sports, Key Club, and other after school activities. School day and after school participation in the Whetstone Academy of the Performing Arts (WAPA) is high. This group includes marching, concert, jazz, and pep bands, orchestra, bell choir, choir, mixed ensemble, theater courses, a fall play, a spring musical, and student led theater productions. Parent involvement is extremely high at Whetstone High School. Parents run groups to support the arts, academics, and the school as a whole.

The experience was really positive. There are a lot of opportunities to further your education with CCP and AP classes. The school is what you make it. It is in a beautiful area allowing students to do projects outside. The worst part is the limitations put on restroom access. Do to improper use by students the 1,100 student building is confined to use two single occupant restrooms. The cafeteria staff is really kind, but portions could be larger for kids who depend on school lunch as a primary source of nutrition.
I'm a Senior at Whetstone High School and I'll say that my experience there has been wonderful, the teachers are very nice and they take their time to teach you and make sure you understand what is being taught, the school does have some flaws, just like any other institution, so don't allow that to destroy your view on the school. Mind your business, don't get involved in Drama, be respectful, and focus on your studies, you got this!
I have really enjoyed my experience at Whetstone. The music and theater department is incomparable. All of the teachers are kind and seem to really care about students.
I was a Career Center student, I went to Fort Hayes for half a day. This led to me missing out on a lot for Whetstone, pep rallies, honor roll lunch or breakfast in the cafeteria. This is my worst take on Whetstone, just missing out on the regular high school experience. I think the best experience was during our COVID years, COVID got classes together better I can’t lie. Every person in class got along and there were absolutely no fights or beef between students. The classwork was all online which was a huge relief and the individual help from teachers was amazing. I don’t know why but for some reason the teachers were able to make more time for office hours, especially our asynchronous Wednesdays. I was the kind of student that the only kind of person who could make school uninhabitable for me are my teachers, not students. But the teachers at Whetstone are easy to get along with. I’d like to see change for the sake of Career Center students and scheduling events with them in mind.
What I liked about Whetstone High School was the diversity. I felt that going to whetstone allowed me to learn about so many different cultures that I would have never thought about. This has allowed me to be more thoughtful of other people's identities and cultures in my everyday life. I don't think Whetstone needs many changes as I've never dealt with many problems here.
I love my school! The environment is amazing and I've learned so much at this school! Our Performing Arts Programs is also really amazing.
One thing I enjoy about whetstone is the amount of opportunity one has to be involved in extracurriculars. One things it can also improve on is cleanliness.
I really liked the community there. The parents and staff were supportive and tried to give us the best experience as possible through Covid-19. However, only four AP classes are offered, so most seniors end up having to go off campus or take on campus Columbus State classes for their senior year if they want advanced classes. The food, like the rest of the district's, is terrible but that isn't the individual school's fault. The school building itself is not very good and could use a lot of upgrades if the money was there.
I overall my experience at Whetstone High School. I personally believe the staff there is amazing and they have been the reason why I am so successful today. I do recommend this school if you are looking for a fun, diverse, and successful high school.
I liked Whetstones community, the councelors and staff really made me feel welcomed. The level of help I got for college was better than expected. I liked the variety of classes available and the resources to other arts in columbus city schools.
I met a lot of wonderful people and learned a lot about myself and other people’s experiences. If you want a rigorous education this may not be your top choice, but there are ways to sign up for classes that are challenging and creating a rigorous schedule.
Whetstone has been a great school for me, it helped me progress over the years I’ve been there. I learned a lot there, i made and lost friends but everything else was great. Sometimes except the food, my favorite meal was the chicken wraps. I loved the sports even though we took a lot of loses it’s fine.
Whetstone is a great school because of its diverse student population and caring faculty members. Students are encouraged to participate in many school activities such as sports, theater and music programs.
I met some of the greatest people at this school , however I do not feel that I was academically pushed . The I know I can program here is amazing. There is no air conditioning in the building.
In general, I’m not a fan of Columbus city schools. Other districts have more money and useful resources. What Whetstone does have, is great teachers and administration. They won’t stop helping students that want to be helped and they like to see them succeed. I speak based on experience.
