There's a gap in my cd collection between The Shadows and The Shirelles. I'm thinking "Sandie Shaw". English chanteuse who didn't have much success in the States. A forum search on her came up empty. There's a 2-cd compilation released a few years back that appears interesting -- THE PYE ANTHOLOGY -- but it's going for over 120 bucks on Amazon.com. :yikes: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004GM6F/ref=pd_rvi_gw_1/102-3262845-6495334

Any other recommendations, thoughts, etc. on Sandie Shaw?

The compilation you mention is probably fine for her 60s output but I prefer this one because it includes the tracks she did with Morrissey and The Smiths, and there's also a good cover of the Lloyd Cole song Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken? It also includes her version of Patti Smith's Frederick. Girl Don't Come is my favourite song of hers, a real 60s classic. This compilation's good because it combines her 60s hits with more contemporary material. Worth checking out.

Absolutely ridiculous. It's going for £11.99 on Amazon.UK

Whether you will like this depends on whether you are happy with mono for the single tracks and stereo for the album tracks.

    Or Helen Shapiro.

In any event, this is a fairly complete well-packaged four-disc career overview, covering 1964 through 1988, compiled with Sandie Shaw's participation:

    http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B0002QFCSW/ref=s9_asin_title_1/103-8105172-5471046

The liner notes claim that stereo mixes are used wherever possible.

Warning: mastered by Peter Mew at EMI, widely reviled around these parts for excessive use of noise reduction.

Sandie Shaw is really crying out for a decent compilation spanning her peak years 1964 to 1970. The Pye anthology is exhaustive up to 1967 but stops short of her three albums Love Me Please Love Me, Sandie Shaw Supplement and Reviewing the Situation. Those three albums are completely underrepresented on the 4cd box, though they are available as a two-fer (for the first two titles) and Reviewing has been released with bonus tracks. That's all very well but that would be too much for the casual collector.

Her version of Love Me Do really swings!

RPM reissued Love Me Please Love Me, Supplement, and Reviewing The Situation with the appropriate period singles as bonus tracks in the early to mid 90s. I think they're pretty hard to find now, and I have nothing to compare them with, but they sound pretty good to me.

And, as far as filling that gap between The Shadows and The Shirelles, may I also suggest Shadows Of Knight, Los Shakers, Del Shannon, Pete Shelley, or The Shins?

I'll second Dennis' vote for the box set, "Nothing Comes Easy". After years of trying to tie up a lot of loose ends in her discography, this came along and handled it very nicely. It's still in print, I'd grab it while you can.

I have a very nice Australian compilation covering 1964-1970 that I bought in 2002.Don't know if it's still in print, though.
