Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
When I saw this box I thought, this looks like fun - all 10 original Pye albums by the Kinks in one box with different covers from different countries! Well, the reality is that, yes it is fun and, a really mixed bag in terms of what is inside. Some of the albums sound better than ever - like the 1st. The few exceptions, inexplicably, are 'Arthur', 'Live at Kelvin Hall', 'Kinda Kinks' - these sound like mono mixes. 'Arthur' especially disappoints compared to the 1998 Castle release with bonus tracks. That's another knock - no liner notes, no bonus tracks, no booklet with accurate track listings. In fact, the track listings are at times incomprehensible (see the Japanese back cover for the 1st album!) So, you do get what you pay for after all. Would I recommend this? For the completist, yes. For audiophiles, yes, in part. Otherwise, seek out the superior value in the reissues with good sound, great notes and extra tracks. This box is more a curio than an essential.
This is the only cd version of the rare mono mix of Arthur. The mix is different than the stereo version, and in my opinion, better. I would tend to disagree with the last reviewer on this point. My only problen is the lack of bonus tracks and the lower quality mini LP sleeves. They are more a novelty than anything. Still a Kool Kollector's item !! A value at $100
