In the British crime drama Professor T, we follow Jasper Tempest, a brilliant mind who helps the city police solve some extremely twisted cases. Every episode brings a new crime to the table, along with the personal drama of Professor T himself. In addition, the character development is off the charts.

In the third season, Professor T resumes his role as an Academic Criminologist, but this time, his perfectly organized life gets tossed into chaos when he lands in prison for firing a rifle in the DCI Brand’s office. We get a front-row seat to Professor T’s life, watching as secrets come tumbling out one by one. Not to mention, there are a plethora of separate cases that pop up in each episode that Professor T and his team tackle and crack wide open.

In Season 3, Professor T keeps its signature mix of suspense, drama, and humor in perfect balance. Each episode is a rollercoaster of emotions, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, the next twist leaves you guessing. The creators really dig deep into the characters and themes, making it a rousing watch. Whether it’s solving a murder mystery or exploring the sophistication of human behaviour, Professor T never fails when it comes to proper entertainment.

The show follows the classic detective series formula with its own spin. Professor T is a brilliant Criminologist with a troubled past and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which adds layers to his character. His OCD makes it hard for him to step out of his comfort zone, but his deep knowledge of criminology helps crack even the toughest cases.

DI Lisa Donckers, his former student, sees his potential and brings him into her team, but things get complicated with DCI Christina Brand, who has a romantic history with Jasper Tempest. At first, DI Paul Rabbit is sceptical of Tempest’s methods, but he eventually comes around. The dynamics between these characters provide propulsion to the series, making it an exciting watch.

Ben Miller plays the role of Ben, a brilliant yet troubled criminology professor. His performance is powerful and holding, as seen in his notable work on shows like Death in Paradise, In My Stead, and Bridgerton. Emma plays the role of a pragmatic and open-minded detective who has recently joined forces with Ben to solve crimes. Emma has also made a mark in television, with roles such as Alice Mondrich in Bridgerton, Ann in the mini-series The Trial of Christine Keeler, and Ayesha in the short film Emerge. Adelaide, on the other hand, is the reason why Ben is helping the professor in facing difficult situations.

Frances, a two-time Tony and Olivier winner, is best known for her role as Ruth Jones in Rising Damp. Her exceptional acting skills have earned her a strong reputation in the industry. You might recognize her from The History Boys, Vanity Fair, or as Madame Maxime in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Heidi Klum brings abysm to the character of Connie, making Patton Oswalt’s portrayal of the cold-blooded serial killer Spencer unique.

You might know Oswalt from his roles in King Gary, Holby City, or Miss Marx. Christina Brand, who heads the CID department and has a history with Xanthias, is linked with Juliet. She is renowned for her roles as Lady Warwick in The White Queen, Lady Marisa Virenesi in Le Donne, and Lily in Snatch. Juliet, well-loved by her fans, has graced the screens in Bend It Like Beckham, The Village, Atlantis, and Secret Invasion.

In the series, she plays a vital role as Professor T’s therapist. Sunetra Gupta takes on the role of Adawna Chopra Goswami, a new inspector at the police station, succeeding her senior, DCI Christina Brand. Known for her abrasive and direct management style, she is quite different from her predecessor.

The show’s ambiance is entirely quirky. The UK version sticks to the heart of the Belgian original but spices things up with its own unique flavor. Also, a huge shoutout goes to the character development, which has been top-notch throughout the whole series.  Dries Vos does his best to make the audience accommodate the character of Professor T, giving us a peek into his mind.

This is what you’d call cracking open a treasure chest of secrets! Not to mention, there is a fine balance between the main cases and the characters’ personal lives and trauma, which keeps us guessing, eager to untangle the next puzzle. Also, the crime cases featured in this season are the real highlight that often has Tempest and his team scratching their heads, trying to solve these mysteries wide open.

Character-wise, Professor T is an OCD patient terrified of germs who finds himself in a nightmare at the end of the second season. To save DCI Christina Brand, he fires a gun at the police station, landing himself in prison due to multiple eyewitnesses. This is his worst nightmare—dirty, disorganized surroundings without his beloved gloves and sanitizer.

Despite feeling cornered by his fears, Professor T sees a silver lining. His time in prison gives him a closer look at criminal thinking. Surrounded by criminals, he helped convict as a CID counsellor, and also faces revenge from one of them. In a twist, he uses his prison stint to investigate a case with DI Donckers and DI Winters, initially resentful but later making the best of his situation. His character development throughout the show is truly deserving of extra credit.

The British crime drama Professor T is a must-watch for fans of investigative shows. Ben Miller shines as Professor T, and he’s supported by a talented cast, including Emma Naomi, Frances De La Tour, and Juliet Aubrey. Each episode delves into Jasper’s (Professor T) internal struggles while showing his talent for finding hope even in dark situations. If you enjoyed Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch, you’ll definitely love this series. Give it a watch!
