Of all the live albums Bauhaus has this one has grown on me the most.
I've grown to like these songs as much as their studio counterparts. It's one of the only live albums I like that compiles multiple performances.
The performances are raunchy and out there, I think if Bauhaus had gotten well known in the national limelight parents would have been outraged.
Nice performance of Bela Lugosi is Dead.
Some great guitar playing and drumming mixed with the usual out there orchestration of live cuts is tight.
I'd give this a 8/10. Really enjoyed it. There's just so much substance listening here.
On reference to recent reissue bonus tracks.. Not a huge fan of the Waiting for the Man cover , they didn't add much to it and Nico's vocals are waned. It might have help up live but not on tape.

Despite its title designed to make it look like a semi-official bootleg and its original release as a mere limited-edition bonus LP with the first copies of The Sky’s Gone Out, the stunning Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape is one of those rare live albums that really match an artist’s studio discography. The sound may be a little raw but the performances, recorded in London and Liverpool between October 1981 and February 1982, are all excellent. This is the only Bauhaus album that contains “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” and this version is just as mind-blowing as the deservedly famous studio one. They were such a tight band, and this is tangible evidence.

Bauhaus' first live album's title (Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape) puts you in mind of audience tapings, and whilst the sound quality on this release isn't quite that bad it's still pretty damn rough. Still, with these high-energy, punkish versions of Bauhaus' various goth anthems that's kind of the approach you want. CD versions include a nice set of bonus tracks expanding the set neatly, though the last one - a cover of the Velvet Underground's I'm Waiting for the Man with Nico guesting on vocals - is an outright disaster, Nico's habitually slow singing cadence being entirely unsuited to the song. But aside from this, it's a decent first-wave goth live album with songs drawn from Bauhaus' earliest, rawest phase (In the Flat Field and Mask); the main downfall is that it's somewhat outshone by subsequent live releases.

This album came with The Sky's Gone Out. Two albums in one sleeve.

Though inessential to most fans, Press the Eject is a good document of Bauhaus early live sound. The band play well, performing most of the key tracks up to this point, and the sound quality is near perfect. The thing is as good as this is, the songs aren't really expanded on in any way, sounding almost identical to their studio counterparts, and the only song that isn't available on another album is a good cover of Waiting for the Man (with Nico). I imagine, with the band's Gothic image, that they're a lot more effective live if you can see them as well as hear them. Don't get me wrong. This isn't a bad album, but it doesn't even have any historical significance like some of their other live albums. As is often the case with live stuff, just get their studio albums unless you're a real big fan.
