      Season 1 – Preacher

      2016 Drama Comedy List
89% Tomatometer 243 Reviews 84% Audience Score 1,000+ Ratings Fulfilling a promise to his deceased father, one-time outlaw Jesse Custer returns home to West Texas to take over his dad's church. Jesse's mission, however, becomes twisted when his body is overcome by a cryptic force that unleashes within him a highly unconventional power. Together with hell-raising ex-girlfriend Tulip and Irish vagabond Cassidy, the preacher-in-training embarks on a journey to find God in a world inhabited by holy, hellish, and everything-in-between characters. The darkly comedic "Preacher" is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's popular 1990s comic book franchise of the same name. Executive producers include Sam Catlin ("Breaking Bad"), and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg ("Superbad," "Neighbors"). Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Jul 12 Buy Now

Alison Herman The Ringer Preacher's reconception may have been necessary, but it seemed to have gone too far in a direction opposite the comics. Aug 14, 2017 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au Preacher's energy is apparent from the opening frames. Even if you find it initially confusing, you'll be glued because of the seductive powers of the series' darkly irreverent and anarchic tone, and happy to go along for the crazy ride. Dec 2, 2016 Full Review Jeff Jensen Entertainment Weekly For all its frustrations, season 1 was always funny and always fun to watch. Rated: B Aug 2, 2016 Full Review Kelechi Ehenulo Confessions From A Geek Mind A good show in the making but sadly left me disappointed. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 15, 2020 Full Review Terence Johnson AwardsCircuit.com With characters this vivid and as much heart as the show seems to have (wink wink) it should provide some fun hijinks on Sundays for viewers. Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Kathryn Reklis The Christian Century Despite its violent excesses, Preacher reminds us that although our battle may be against the powers and principalities, the real struggle happens when two or three are gathered. Lukas-Jeremie K Like "The Boys," "Preacher" is based on a comic of the same name by author Garth Ennis. Since both series are from the same creators, "Preacher" can be seen as a kind of blueprint for "The Boys". Both series are extremely absurd, filled with dark humor and, above all, bloody. While I loved "The Boys," I just couldn't really get into "Preacher," even after 12 episodes. Here and there some scenes are very entertaining and funny, but all in all I couldn't really demand much from the series - perhaps the series works better if you know the comic books, but I see it as someone who hasn't read the books Most of the time I just have monotonous characters and a boring story. The series also created Tulip, probably the most annoying character I've ever seen in a series. At least the special effects are pretty good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review Michael Antony A Mikey's Review: PREACHER (2016-2019) The original, classic, almost flawless Garth Ennis / Steve Dillon story only provides the basis for this darkly funny and wildly irreverent TV interpretation. Producer Seth Rogan obviously has a deep respect for the source material, but not at the expense of character development or of pushing the boundaries just that little bit further. The sluggish pace could benefit occasionally from a 'quick edit' injection, but aesthetically the sweltering Texas / New Orleans mood is captured in every frame. The three main leads - Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga as Tulip O'Hare and Joe Gilgun as Cassidy - appear born to play these roles, but the huge supporting cast is great too. Ian Colletti makes for a sympathetic Eugene 'Arseface' Root and Pip Torrens is an exceptionally amusing Herr Starr. The fact that the series is quite its own thing means a foreknowledge of the comic lore isn't a requirement, although the 9 Book series is certainly worth a read... so what are you waiting for? Gráficos bem trabalhados e com atuações dos atores que demonstra o humor ácido na hora certa. Pessoas sensíveis tem que passar BEM longe.
