It´s part of your Praia experience! You should have a look to see how the locals bargain, have manicure and gather for hair-styling :) you may be surprise by the amount of havaianas stands, they are actually half-price of prices practised in the EU , so hopefully you can find a new pair of flip-flops ;)

If you you spend some hours on this beach during the week you'll not be disappointed but should you try it over the weekend and you might end up not having too much "space".

George was so kind to show us around, he lives at the lighthouse, like bis father before him (35 years). George is there to protect and preserve the lighthouse. George made a big effort to explain everything to us, in his best english. To go up in the lighthouse he charges 2 Euro per Person. Up there you have a nice view.

In the heart of the plateau and old town this pleasant little square is a peaceful place to sit in and wander around. There are plenty of benches and a small café with some outside seating. There are areas of cacti, trees and bushes, a statue and a fountain.

At Praia's main square in the southern 'Platô' is also located the pro-cathedral (a provisionary cathedral) of Nossa Senhora da Graça (Our Lady of Grace). It is an early 20th century building with a - for a catholic church - surprisingly austere interior. The church is well visited by locals and is worth to have a look at and to feel its special atmosphere.

It's a nice beach and is thankfully being kept clean. Water is practically lukewarm as February is a hot month in Praia. Use plenty of sunscreen.

First visit to Praia. Was shocked at how difficult it was to buy anything that we usually get on holiday. Sun tan lotion, beach bag and towels. Sun tan lotion started at €28 a bottle!! Cabs cheap, food reasonable. Not as many restaurants as we had expected, but good food. Plateau had the most to offer in the way of shopping. Should have visited at the beginning of our holiday.

For sure it is nice for Cape Verde to have a Stadium like de Nacional on the outskirt of town. However, after watching the success the Cape Verde Football Team (know as the Tubarões Azuis") had on the old house, even reaching to the first place in Africa on the FIFA ranking, the new house thus far have been the place of lost after lost, even though managing have changed 3 times in the last 2 years...
The Place itself is nice and only must improve on public transportation back and forth from it.

As others mentioned already this place is hard to find. Even when I located this place I wanted to leave as I thought it was closed. Still gave it a shot and opened the gate myself. Upon entering the building I could buy a ticket and have a look at the various objects. This was very interesting, especially to also locate some Dutch rarities.
The downside is that the museum is extremely small (only one room) and the explanations are short, albeit more than enough. Second remark is that not all items were numbered such that you had to find the right explanation yourself.
All-in-all very much worth a visit!!

Small and impressive museum and center of the movement of liberation of the african colonies. Friends of Cabral were in a meeting upstairs when we visited this house. In the cellar many books, photos, trunks and papers... everything will be carefully documented the next years. We had a good guide telling us the stories, showing us around.

Be sure to see this colossal bronze up in the city center on the Plateau. It's near a quiet park with a pleasant cafe overlooking the port area.

This building is still used today for criminal processing. It's a nice building to look at if you happen to be around the area. It's across the street from the center plaza in Plato, on the southern side. And just beyond the building, further south, you will see the Presidential Palace, right by a children's playground. The playground costs a few escudos per child, but is there is the kids want to go for a swing or play around. You can make this part of your day trip, as a stroll through the park and the surrounding areas will allow for some nice pictures and time to walk off a big lunch.
