The first iterations weren’t cheap though.One reporter visited a tech show in 1986 and explored the new inventions hitting the market. A boom box that could play CDs and cassettes was one of the highlights. It promised big sound and cost big money. It was priced at $599.95, which is roughly $1,680 in 2024.Another big invention that wasn’t so large in size was the portable CD-player. This “handy-dandy” device could fit in a pocket and let you listen to music on the go. It would only set you back $260 in 1986.
