- Pamela F2 contributionsCute little town. We had a gray experience at the Little Crowne Inn. They have a little pub where all the working class kind of pop in after work for a pint. Very, very friendly locals. The inn was sweet and the proprietor couldn’t have been nicer. We had dinner at The Queen Inn. Fabulous.Written July 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- High Street FitnessPontypool, UK9 contributionsThe precise date of construction for the tower is unknown, but it is generally thought that the original tower was built around 1765 to 1770 by John Hanbury, a local landowner and ironmaster who owned Pontypool Park. The local name of The Folly was in use as far back as 1865. It is thought the tower was renovated around 1831 by Capel Hanbury Leigh. This date is derived from a keystone from the doorway bearing an '1831' inscription. The tower provided a vantage point over the local area and quickly became popular and a well known feature of the area.
In May 1935 an estimated 15 to 20,000 people gathered at the Folly Tower to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King George V with the lighting of a bonfire.
However, the folly, being open to the elements, began to fall into a state of disrepair during the late 1930s. Pontypool Park Estate Office attached notices to the structure informing visitors of the potential dangers of falling masonry.Written January 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I consider myself fairly fit of average weight and I didn't think I was going to make it to the top! Probably best to walk up to the folly and then over to the grotto; which was closed but still lovely!Written December 5, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jimmy E1 contributionThe meat being sold is of a very low standard/breeding
You are being charged as though they had herds of Aberdeen Angus cattle in the fields, when in reality its dexter beef which is no way rated for the quality of beef it produces. The only part that is 5☆ rated is the price which the customer is being conned into thinking its special because its expensive and the story, it must be quality because its " farm breed " which every cut of beef for sale is 🤪
I'm sure there's a lot of unhappy customers out there after being truly over charged at the till like I was for a sub standard productWritten March 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She's very passionate about cheese they make and happy to explain the process how the cheese is made. We've learnt that some of special ones are matured in a shaft of Big Pit. We were even given a useful advice about places that worth visiting around south Wales. Great experience, absolutely fantastic cheese.Written March 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- WelshwaspSouth Wales, UK535 contributionsUnfortunately the market is a poor relation to its former glory. Despite various attempts to promote it and incentives for stall holders it is no longer a place where you can go and be able to do your weekly shop. Stall holders now do not seem to stay long. This is a reflection of the town in many ways with run down and empty shops Many people just drive to the one supermarket and possibly visit another towards the town centre and then return home without even bothering to enter the market building.Written August 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
