Over my 13 year experience at Poly, I’ve grown with the school and learned to love it. I’m glad for how the school itself has molded me. I’ve gotten to explore the arts, play varsity sports on fields that top any other school in NYC, and set myself up for a successful college career.
I absolutely loved the education. The english and math department of the high school are stellar and care truly about the students, the student's well being, and their education. The athletics is cutthroat and treats every sporting event like the olympics. The campus is beautiful, but it seems recently the administration is falling apart.
My experience at Poly has been unlike a lot of other students. During my freshman and sophomore year, I was ostracized for having a dad who had done jail time and I went through a challenging time trying to be accepted amongst my peers. While it was not easy making friends because I came from a different background than other kids there, I learned how to grow stronger from my experience. I turned to talk to the staff about my issues and found the bullying did not have to be tolerated forever. After the countless taunts and discussions about my dad amongst Poly kids, I came out to talk about my experience and gained respect amongst my peers I have never seen before. I found people who loved me for me and didn't judge me for my background and because of what my dad has done in the past. I learned, as well as those around me, my dad's past should have not defined my high school experience or made it different but if anything It helped me grow as a person and only make me stronger.
