Pleasant Valley High School Reviews
Rating 3.73 out of 5 273 reviews
I started high school online during the height of the pandemic. Overall, I'd say that experience was mediocre, as teachers weren't prepared to teach over Zoom. However, when I went returned to in-person learning, I have had a great experience.
There are so many opportunities to explore different interests, with numerous electives that lead into CTE pathways, medical and education careers, as well as sciences and mathematics through advanced courses. I've had the opportunity to take 10 AP and many more honors classes, which have really enhanced my knowledge and abilities within the academic field.
My school has a wide range of sports teams ranging from swimming to football, where we have won many championships, state, league titles. There are many other extracurriculars on campus as well through clubs that offer community service opportunities and ones of interest.
However, my school is made up of predominantly white students, and other cultures aren't represented and celebrated enough.

The best part of this school is how many resources we have. I feel prepared to take on my next step in college, and I have never felt like I could not access the things I needed to be able to exceed in classes. However, the part of PV that I think is lacking is the administration. It seems as if they are often focused on unnecessary issues and make things more difficult than they need to be, like with next year's schedule and the senior prank. I've heard nothing but complaints about most of our counselors from other students because they are too unhelpful, and many people are busy in the senior year trying to catch up with classes their counselors told them they didn't need to take, but they do. Despite this, many of our teachers are very good and willing to go out of their way to help their students succeed.
On the positive side, PVHS has a wide range of clubs and activities to get involved in, like student government, sports, theater, and academic teams. I've made great friends through some of the clubs. Most of the teachers genuinely care about students and want us to succeed. I've had some amazing teachers that made learning fun and inspired me. The school offers several AP and honors courses for students looking for an academic challenge.
Academically, there is a wide spectrum of student abilities with some very high achieving students taking multiple APs while others struggle to pass basic classes. The school doesn't always do a good job supporting students who are behind. There are some great teachers, but also some that are burnt out and just going through the motions.
Overall, it's a decent school with some strong programs and staff. With some improvements to student support services and balancing the academic opportunities, PV could be a really great school.
3.5 stars.
