Serie B promotion play-off final: Pisa vs. Monza - Football Italia

Pisa need to overturn a 2-1 first leg defeat in order to achieve promotion to Serie A, or Monza will step up to the top flight instead.

Lecce and Cremonese have already achieved automatic promotion after taking the top two spots in the regular Serie B season.

Monza, who are run by former Milan chiefs Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani, won the first leg of the promotion play-off final 2-1 on home turf.

The second leg is at the Arena Garibaldi this evening at 19.30 UK time (18.30 GMT).

Dani Mota and Gytkjaer had given Monza the 2-0 lead, but a last-gasp Berra effort kept the door open.

In order to earn promotion, Pisa must win by two clear goals.

Away goals do not count double in the play-offs from this season, so if Pisa win by one clear goal, it goes to extra time and perhaps even penalties.

Both these sides finished the Serie B season in joint third place on 67 points.

Pisa: Nicolas; Birindelli, Leverbe, Hermannsson, Beruatto; Siega, Nagy, Marin; Puscas; Torregrossa, Sibilli

Monza: Di Gregorio, Caldirola, Marrone, Pirola; Molina, Mazzitelli, Barberis, Machin, Carlos Augusto; Ciurria, Mota Carvalho

  1. This is something like Derby Della Madonnina. Nerazzuri against Berlusconi. 😛 So, forza Piza. But, even if Monza wins they will come to Serie A first time. 🙂

  2. Forza Monza all the way. I can’t wait to see Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani at San siro.

  3. Congratulations to Monza for first promotion to Serie A. I wished to see 3 nerazzurri but maybe next year. Forza Pisa and Venezia in Serie B. 🙂
