Andrew McKee Such a great film that has become so underrated because of less impressive sequels. The movie has thrilling action that is blessed with brilliant shots and choreography. The acting is top notch. A strong female lead (Kiera Knightley), a wonderful underdog performance to route for (Orlando Bloom), a truly great villain (Geoffrey Rush), and one of the most memorable characters in film history (Johnny Depp) make for incredibly captivating storytelling in a film with so many perfect throwbacks to classic swashbuckler film. An all time classic in any genre. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review Charlie MASTERPIECE. ART. CINEMA. Rated: 3/4 Jan 4, 2019 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Rip-roaring fun for kids who don't mind skeletons. Rated: 4/5 Dec 27, 2010 Full Review David Ansen Newsweek Here -- in a Jerry Bruckheimer-produced high-seas adventure that incorporates roaring cannons, oddball comedy, a love story and more than a touch of the supernatural -- Depp unleashes his theatrical bravado. He's hilarious. Nov 1, 2007 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault Competently mounted if essentially uninspired action-adventure, with some anti-climactic moments, some cavernous dead spots, and a generally sputtering pace. Rated: B- Sep 19, 2022 Full Review Allison Rose FlickDirect While Depp has had numerous memorable roles, Captain Sparrow is by far the most intriguing of his characters and displays his talent as an actor. Rated: 4.5/5 Jan 3, 2022 Full Review Mikel Zorrilla Espinof This comedy is well integrated into the story, helping us to get to know the characters and the relationships that arise between them, but always with the mind of offering the viewer pure popcorn entertainment of the first level.
