Nicki’s world-beating debut album, on the back of her mixtape success and label deal with Young Money. The album was a worldwide smash hit, thanks to 8 massive singles, epic guest spots, a star-studded production team, and a perfect roll out. It also introduced a new female rapper to the fold, perfectly capable of holding her own alongside the best rappers of all time. It’s also fair to acknowledge the role her epic guest verse on Kanye’s “Monster” played, with Nicki herself calling it her break out verse.
Pink Friday stomped to number 1 on the US Billboard 200, and charted worldwide. It’s certified triple platinum in the US, and houses the 8 times platinum single “Super Bass.”
The album is a flawless mix of rapping (“Roman’s Revenge,” “Did It On ‘Em,” “Blazin” and “Moment 4 Life”) and her pop-centric singing (“Fly,” “Dear Old Nicki,” Your Love"). It’s a formula she’d follow for her next record, and one that has earned her a spot among rap and pop elite.
The name was announced by Nicki on Ustream, and the name was explained as “To carry on a great tradition of Black Friday, we are going to switch it up this year in honor of the Nicki Minaj album and call that day Pink Friday, and call my album Pink Friday.”
