- CityGirlOhio11 contributionsWhat a beautiful state capital South Dakota!!! 👏 Citizens of the state of South Dakota can be proud to know their capital is gorgeous and filled with incredibly hospitable employees. Everyone we came across was so welcoming and informative. From the State Troopers to the gift shop sales person to “political” people, even the landscapers, everyone was genuinely kind and welcoming. What an adventure too, whether you take a guided tour (reserve a spot at least 2 days ahead) or you venture out on your own, you’ll pretty much get to see the whole place! There are 5 floors to check out. The architecture is beautiful, both outside and inside. We loved so many small artistic details like the mosaic tile floors, the marble laid Art Deco bathrooms (on the second floor) to the bronze sculptures in the rotunda. There is also some beautiful stained glass in the House Lobby , so many pieces of wonderful artwork 🖼 all around. I personally LOVED 💕 all the informational displays of the Governor’s First Ladies and Gentlemen (current). The information shared basic background information of each First Lady/Gentleman and the special interest they brought to their Governor’s term. The display cases also show miniature versions of the gowns/tuxedo worn for inauguration. Our family has been on a quest to have our photo taken in front of every United States 🇺🇸 Capital since our first child. If you’re a Capital buff, this Capital is a MUST!!!Written August 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - keithflowAlbuquerque, NM796 contributionsIt was pretty, great concept, but no flame. Was only there about 5 minutes, that is all you really need. Just a few short steps from the Capitol Building on the lake. They need to clean out some of the debris, however.Written June 8, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jbwhitehouseDallas, TX1,861 contributionsThe Visitor Center is loaded with displays and educational information as well as travel brochures. The staff woman is very enthusiastic and helpful. - AZ HikerSun City, AZ8 contributionsBiked over the causeway and rode the main trail down to the tip of the island and back again. It was easy to follow, nearly completely flat, and well maintained. My hybrid bicycle handled the terrain well. Once I completed the main trail I rode the various single track trails. Had to dismount and walk through the sandy areas near the shore's edge but still great fun! I highly recommend these trails to hike or bike. Quiet secluded beaches, great views of rolling hills in the distance and a nice mix of woods and prairie fields across the interior of the island. I'd frequent this park if I were a local.Written August 16, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- tacitus27Brookings, SD56 contributionsMany interactive displays that would amuse and interest children while still exhibiting count less galleries to fascinate adults.Written July 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jule G8 contributionsI've stopped by and brought my kids to this place a handful of times. Pierre is the mid-point of between us and other family on the other side of the state (we each live a couple hrs drive away). Each time we stop, my kids have a great time. This past Christmas season we met up with my sister and her family. The cousins had a lot of fun! I enjoyed the planetarium we saw about a year ago.Written July 9, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Pir1Pierre, SD72 contributionsA remarkable man in the State's history. A banker from Yankton, McMaster went on to serve in the US Senate and then left South Dakota for work for Charles Walgreen at a bank in Dixon, Illinois until his death in 1968.Written January 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tacitus27Brookings, SD56 contributionsLots of interesting guns and weaponry, but the best feature of the museum were 7 enormous binders containing write ups of every South Dakotan that died in WWII. The files contain both those who died from enemy action as well as those who suffered accidents resulting in their deaths. Great place to find out about relatives or an aunt's old boyfriend.Written July 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - pktvaSpringfield, VA43 contributionsNew brewery as of April 2017, the only one in Pierre. Very nice tap room. Food is limited to popcorn, pretzels, chips. Brews were really good. Worth a try if you like craft beer.Written July 2, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Misti M4 contributionsDefinitely worth checking out. Bickering Brothers or Dakota Spirit Distillery is a must see local attraction. If you just want to check out how Whiskey is made or have a great conversation with the local Distiller or try any of their fabulous products (Whiskey, Vodka, Brandy or Coyote 100) stop by. We had a great time touring the facility, learning the whole process and of course trying some of the different products that they make. Ended up buying a few bottles to share with friends. I highly recommend the Whiskey.Written August 8, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- CHBrookeBrookings, SD93 contributionsBeautiful views to the hills on the west side of the Missouri River. Ample stadium seating for baseball games with your choice of covered seating or open to the sun. Bring your stadium chairs to the covered seating as they are concrete open seats. Concessions and bathroom facilities very nice. Hopefully your team wins and it will be a day of perfect weather! Take a walk around the adjacent Capitol Lake while your team warms up and you'll get your exercise too.Written June 26, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
