This was the most interesting place in Brescia and somewhat of a surprise. The Roman temple was built in 73 AD by a Roman called Vespacian and over the years lost until 1826 when social housing and a park were removed to find the ruin. It is impressive and a must see in Brescia and it is adjacent to the Roman Theatre. Signage in English is good and access relatively easy.

In Lombardia all the cities are so beautiful and enriched of history and art. Brescia is a fantastic surprise.

We took a day trip by train from Peschiera DG to Brescia specifically to the Capitoline Temple. The walk from the station is some way, the area around the station not pleasant, but the town itself is lovely and the Temple well signposted.
On my first glimpse of the columns I was frozen, they're amazing! We stopped to see the small forum area before heading into the temple complex. We paid 15 Euro for the temple and the Santa Giulia museum combined ticket.
You begin the tour by walking underground into an airlock, watch a short film about the history of the Temple and then enter the Republican era cella. This is incredible. After seeing some finds from the site, you are standing inside a Roman Temple with mosaic floor and wall paintings, as they were. The walls are about 1m high now, but the painting and colours are breathtaking. I just can't describe how wonderful this is.
After leaving the cella, you are free to walk into the Temple - climb the steps and stand under the immense columns and look down the road, which was the Forum. Then enter the Temple and see each cella with original marble flooring and a small amount of marbled wall. There are some remains of the huge Capitoline statues on show as well as other monumental items.
After a really good description in the final cella, of the history of Roman Brescia, you go outside again and visit the Roman Theatre.
The site is really well done, explanations are in English and not too lengthy and the staff were all really helpful to us and pleased that we were there. Incredibly, we only saw 2 other people inside.
On leaving the Temple, we walked the short distance to the Santa Giulia museum.

This site is among the best-preserved Roman-era sights in the entire of Italy. While we were there, most people seemed to just wander around the pillars and the small museum housing the inscriptions, but the real gem is the wonderfully preserved mosaics and frescos found underground. Having read about it beforehand, we were not satisfied to just take photos on the steps, so we enquired and the kind staff brought us down through an airlock system to watch a short film (which gave the necessary run-down of the many stages of building and destruction) and after a few moments were led through another airtight door to the main chamber.
It's hard to describe the feeling of essentially standing in a original roman structure. Besides the religious and social importance of the site, you get the sense that you've gone back in time and are standing in the room as it was, not as a museum display. The curators of the museum are providing the public with an incredible opportunity to experience something so priceless, for a relatively small price.
Despite being there in the height of the tourist season, we were alone going down to the chamber, and even the ruins themselves were quiet. If you just want a photo with the columns, I'm sure it's cheaper to stay on the street, but then you miss the real value of the site. A reduced combined Capitolium-Museo Santa Giulia ticket is available from either ticket offices (called "Pass Brixia" on the website, but the staff said it hasn't been called that in years - simply ask for a combined ticket).

On our recent visit to the city of Berscia , we had the opportunity to visit a site of the Roman empire. In the museum you can see the development from even the Pre Roman empires , there is even a dig site where you can see the layers of pre roman then roman and then the next era till today. A good film is presented which gives you a 3 d style feeling of the bygone days. . The Museum was a bit expensive at 15 euros but was in the end worth it as it was informative. We learnt a lot about the Romans.

something like this in the middle f a city. And nobody knows (besides the few) that all this was was disappeared under the sedimentation of centuries , just discovered in the 1800's .

After a superb visit to the Santa Giulia, more delights to follow.
The wonderful temple and outside areas can be admired without charge but a visit inside brings the whole park to Roman life again.
Entrance is 8 euros but included with the Brescia Card or Abbonamento Musei Lombardia card which I used continually during my two weeks in the area.
The AV presentation explains the history and the reconstruction of the temple.
Fantastic collection of combs, coins and tools.
The underground chambers with their massive mosaics and frescoed walls are impressive (between 89 and 75 BC I think).
Out now to the main temple for the Sculptures and Hall Of Furnishings and Decoration. The vast range of Roman tablets on display are due to the fine quality limestone found in Brescia (only bettered by Rome of course and Aquileia).
Welcoming staff and special thanks to Lugana for answering my questions.
Great experience not to be missed .

A fascinating place hidden inside the historic centre of Brescia. The grounds are free to explore and very photogenic. I didn't enter the museum but it is worth a quick visit, just for the facade. The number one thing to visit In Brescia forsure. I recommend coming past dark to see the arch lit-up.

This one seemed to be getting mixed reviews here on TripAdvisor. And I think I can see why, if you’ve been to those beautifully restored theatres in Pompeii, Orange etc than this could be underwhelming.
I thought that it was nevertheless wonderfully atmospheric. It’s debatable if it’s really value for money to pay for a ticket to view the site as most of the notable features are free or can be seen from areas already accessible free of charge to the public.
I did however enjoy the video presentation that led to the underground display on the left side of the site. The video plays while the room reacclimatizes after visitors enter the space. This precaution allows for the preservation of the murals and other artifacts that are on site. I found it interesting too, to see the multiple layers of development that are otherwise concealed.
Finally, the cost of the ticket is modest and surely the least most of us can do to help support a well-curated and responsibly cared-for world treasure.
Well worth the brief 30-plus minutes it takes to ‘see’ it if you’re Ina rush.

It was the first time when I saw Roman ruins. I was staying and wondering how beautiful and strong they build it and how impressed Roman culture. The level of reconstruction is perfect and the place is just in the center of a city. I recommend to visit it while being in Brescia.

Its a museum and one needs to buy a ticket to go inside - it helps with the upkeep and the price is not unreasonable - It is a pleasant 30-minute walk from the railway station with lots of sights (shopping/ cafes) along the way

It is possible by walking, if you wan't to walk from the city center (which is closer) take the metro from Stazione to Vittoria and walk the last part.
