There have been a few greatest hit compilations of Ringo Starr's out there to get but I think for the money "Photograph The Very Best Of Ringo" is the best of them all. Of course right from the bat as is with the case of any greatest hits album by any artist there will always be a feeling from the listener that a song or two was left off that should have been included. For some no doubt that may be the case here. But I have no complaints with what they have on this CD. Maybe a song or two could have been added but the songs they do have on this disc is worthy of being here and represent Ringo's best work from his solo career after the breakup of The Beatles.
The sound quality of this album is great as well as the overall production of the CD. One of the best features I think of this CD is the booklet you get with the album. Not only does it list the songs with the usual info of who wrote it and who played what instrument or sang back up during the recording but you get Ringo giving a brief description about the song and the history behind it. I do no believe in all the reviews on CDs I have written in the past for Amazon I have ever given note to a booklet that came with a CD. In this case however the booklet adds to the value of the music on the CD to read Ringo's comments while the song is playing.
As for the music itself it covers Ringo's solo career from 1970 to the mid 2000's. It begins with Ringo's two most well known and probably biggest hits "Photograph" and "It Don't Come Easy". 20 songs in all. Too many to list all but some of the bigger well known songs include "Your Sixteen (You're Beautiful Ad You're Mine)", "Back Off Boogaloo", "No-No Song" and so much more. Ringo's music is usually upbeat and easy going as many of the songs are on this album like "Back Off Boogaloo" and "Snookeroo" but it can be reflective and insightful too with songs like "Photograph" and "Never Without You".
If you are in the market for a greatest hits collection by Ringo from his solo career this is the one to get. Don't get me wrong. The other albums ou there of his greatest hit are good. This is I just think the greatest of those greatest hit albums available.

I've always loved Ringo. In the beginning, late 1963, when I heard " I Wanna Hold Your Hand ", it was Ringo's drums that jumped out at me. I loved him. I went on to play drums for 20 years. I bought this cd because all the songs are sung by Ringo. Nobody in the world sounds like Ringo. He sings very well. He was my first music Heroe. I love the cd Photograph and it came except the top of the jewel case was broken again. I'm tired of returning cds that come broken, so I put a new one on and everything is fine. I'm going to think twice now before I buy any more cd's from Amazon. This has happened many times and will be discouraged from purchasing any more from Amazon. It was Great when I was able to take a photo of the return code and bring it to the UPS store and they would take care of the rest. Easy, but now, I have to repackage the item, pay for postage and shipping and handling twice to send it back to get a refund on my credit card, minus the postage and so on. Disappointed in Amazon. Sorry folks, but that's what has happened to me too many times.

Ringo Starr usually gets the worst end of the deal when people discuss reasons for the success of The Beatles. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were songwriting geniuses and charismatic performers. They complemented each other like yin and yang and gave birth to an incredible new brand of pop/rock music. George Harrison had an aura of quiet reflection and spirituality, and this added another dimension to the mix. Ringo's "brand" was not as obviously defined. But if the 4 Beatles embodied the 4 basic elements, then Ringo was "earth". A very good drummer, he laid down the beat foundation for their music. He had a likable personality; he seemed amiable and accessible. In a way, he was Everyman, the common Joe, just as he appeared in the film "A Hard Day's Night". And he had some shining moments singing as a Beatle - "With A Little Help From My Friends", "Yellow Submarine", "Act Naturally", "What Goes On", "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Matchbox". Though not nearly as good a vocalist as John or Paul, he could put across a song in an engaging way.
And he didn't do badly as a solo performer either. He had many hits, my favorites being "Photograph", "It Don't Come Easy", "Oh My My", and "Back Off Boogaloo". And something I just discovered when researching this set is that he wrote or co-wrote those, and others on this collection. So I would say that he earned his place in the pop music pantheon. Other tracks that I was not as familiar with are very appealing. Ringo's cover of "Only You" is nicely done, with a slow tempo and laid-back approach. "Snookeroo", written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, is upbeat with slide guitar and piano. "No No Song" is very amusing, making light of substance abuse, which none of us would ever do, right? Another song that is lots of fun ("Uh-huh-huh!") is "Goodnight Vienna", written by John Lennon. "Weight Of The World" is good mid-tempo pop, a bit more serious than most of the other selections. This also applies to "King Of Broken Hearts", probably the heaviest song on the album. Ringo co-wrote that one and also "Never Without You", his tribute to George Harrison.
Reviewer Charles W. Cobb mentioned a discrepancy between Amazon's track listing and the actual contents of the CD. He is correct. Tracks 13 - 16 are as follows: 13 - Hey Baby, 14 - A Dose Of Rock 'N' Roll, 15 - Weight Of The World, and 16 - King Of Broken Hearts. I will also mention that while I do not consider myself an expert in "sonics", the sound of several of the tracks to me is a bit fuzzy or muddy.
