Holy Mass | 17/04/2024 at 9.30am | By St Edward's Church | The Regina Cherry. Oh Queen of Heaven, rejoice, hallelujah, for he who muted merit to bear, hallelujah, has risen as he said, hallelujah. Pray for us to God, hallelujah. Rejoice and be glad, oh Virgin Mary, hallelujah. For the Lord has risen indeed, hallelujah. Oh God, who through the resurrection of your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, did vouch to fill the world with joy. Grant we beseech you that through his Virgin Mother Mary we may come to the joys of everlasting life. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the friendship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. So is always on a wedding stabler honouring Our Lady Our Lady of Perpetual Help. But let's remember Our Lady of Lord because yesterday was the feast day of Saint Bernadette Subaru. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. May almighty God have mercy on us. Forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Let us pray. Be present to your family oh Lord we pray and graciously ensure those you have endowed with the grace of faith, an eternal share in the resurrection of your only begotten son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen. A reading from the Acts of the Apostles. That day a bitter persecution started against the church in Jerusalem. And everyone except the apostles fled to the country districts of Judea and Samaria. There were some devout people, however, who buried Stephen and made great mourning for him. So then worked for the total destruction of the church He went from house to house arresting both men and women and sending them to prison. Those who had escaped went from place to place preaching the good news. One of them was Philip Who went to a Samaritan town and proclaimed the Christ to them. The people united in welcoming the message Philip preached. Either because they had heard of the miracles he worked or because they saw them for themselves. There were for example, unclean spirits that came shrieking out of many who were possessed. And several paralytics and cripples were cured. There was great rejoicing in that town as a result. The word of the Lord. Hallelujah. The response to the Psalm is hallelujah. Alleluia. Cry out with joy to God all the earth. Oh sing to the glory of his name. Oh render him glorious praise. Say to God how tremendous your deeds. Hallelujah. Before you all the earth shall bow. Shall sing to you. Sing to your name. Come and see the works of God. Tremendous his deeds among men. He turned the sea into dry land. They passed through the river Dryshod. Let our joy then be in him. He rules forever by his might. Amen. The sheep that belong to me, listen to my voice, says the Lord. I know them and they follow me. The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. Jesus said to the crowd I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never be hungry. He who believes in me will never thirst. But as I have told you, you can see me and still you do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me. And whoever comes to me I shall not turn him away. Because I have come from heaven. Not to do my own will but to do the will of the one who sent me. Now the will of him who sent me is that I should lose nothing of all that he has given to me. And that I should raise it up on the last day. Yes it is my father's will that whoever sees the son and believes in him shall have eternal life. And that I shall raise him up on the last day. The Gospel of the Lord. Every week at this novena we pray for Madeleine McCann and all missing children And in a couple of weeks time the third of May it will be the 17th anniversary of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. So I'm going to put some A four sheets at the back of the church. And if you wish over the next week or so just to maybe write a message and I'll put that into like a a mass bouquet and send it to Missus Sue Healy who is the grandmother of Madeleine. I've known Sue since two thousand and 7 and your husband Brian who is sadly died. So I know that Sue gets great comfort from the fact that people here in Airdrie are praying for Madeleine and all missing children. So we'd be grateful if you could maybe put a wee message for Sue and the family. Yesterday was the feast of Saint Bernadette Subaru. This little peasant girl who received apparitions of Our Lady in 18 fifty-eight in Luurd. And Bernadette is now in the convent in Navere outside of Paris. Um her body apparently is incorruptible. And she's in a glass case. I see this every time I talk about Bernadette I think it's the last thing that Bernadette would want. The Bernadette was a a girl of the land. She was a peasant girl to her very fingertips. She loved the land. And I'm sure she'd want to have gone back. To the land where she was born and raised. It's a remarkable story of how this little girl received apparitions and the whole beautiful place of Lord emerged. Bernadette had a pretty miserable life. She died of tuberculosis at the age of thirty-five. And see great humility She used to say I'm an instrument in God's hands. I'm like a broom in God's hands. What do you do with a broom? once you've swept the floor? You put it behind the door and you forget about it. And I'm a broom in God's hands. I've been useful. I've served. My use on this earth. I'm sure you've seen the film The Song of Bernadette with the beautiful Jennifer Jones playing Saint Bernadette Subaru. My Aunt Josie. This is a wee sideline. Never approved of Jennifer Jones playing Bernadette Subaru because she'd a rather turbulent personal life Jennifer. And eh my aunt Josie thought she she really shouldn't be playing Saint Bernadette. But at the beginning of of that film it says for those with faith no explanation is necessary. For those without faith no explanation is possible. The story of Lord the story of Bernadette. It's a beautiful place of healing. It's a wonderful story of healing and holiness in prayer. But it all depends from which perspective you look at it. For those with faith no explanation is necessary. For those without faith no explanation is possible. Oh mother of perpetual help with the greatest confidence we come before your holy picture to be inspired by the example of your life. We think of you at that moment when full of faith and trust you accepted God's call to be the mother of his son. Help us your children to accept with joy our calling in life. When you learn that your cousin Elizabeth was in need you immediately went to surfer and offer your help. Help us you to be concerned with others. We think of you mother at the foot of the cross. Your heart must have led to see your son in agony. But your joy was great when he rose from the dead victorious over the power of evil. Mother of sorrows help us through our trials and disappointments. Help us not to lose heart. May we share with you and your son the joy of having courageously faced up to all the challenges of life. Amen. We ask Mary to join us as we turn to God in prayer calling to mind our needs and needs of the church and of all God's people. For ourselves that we may have courage in our troubles. For our families that our homes may be places of welcome, love and understanding. For our parish that we may use our talents and service of the church. For our church that she may be blessed with committedly people, good priests and religious. For the whole world that God's kingdom of justice, peace and joy may flourish everywhere. For our own personal intentions we pray for a few moments in silence. We pray for peace in our world. We pray for all who are ill. We pray for all who need a prayer. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death, amen. We pray for all our deceased loved ones. We remember Paul Cahill, whose Equim Mass was celebrated yesterday in Saint Edwards. Remember the repose of the soul of Father Martin Chambers, Bishop Elect of Dunkeld. Eternal rest grant unto them oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen. Oh God, our creator, we thank you for the gift of life and all the gifts of nature, our senses, our faculties, our talents and our abilities. We thank you for creating us in your image and likeness and forgiving us this heir to use and develop, to respect and cherish despite our failures you continue to show your love for us today by increasing the life of your spirit within us at the Eucharistic people. Father we thank you for giving us Mary the mother of your son, to be our mother of perpetual help, and for all the wonderful things you have done for us, especially for giving us your son, Jesus, to be our redeemer. We are grateful for all the favours we have received through her intercession. We pray that those past favours may inspire us to greater confidence in your loving mercy. And in seeking the aid of our mother of perpetual help. Amen. That is not my phone. Okay? That is not my phone. We pray for Madeleine McCann and all missing children and we're united with the McCann family because I know that Sue goes to the novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bishop Eaton, Liverpool, the Redemptress Parish and Derise Great Comfort from that novena. So we're very much united in prayer. During our novena prayers. God our father, your son, Jesus Christ, as a child was lost in the chaos of a great city and was restored to the love of his family. Watch over all of the children now missing for whom we pray and protect them with your love. Be near to those who are anxious for them. Let your presence change their sorrow into comfort. Their anxiety into trust. The despair into faith that they may know your loving purpose. And this we ask in the name of Jesus our Lord who loves and lives and cares for all your children. Amen. Father pour out your spirit upon our parish of Saint Edwards and grant us a new vision of your glory, a new experience of your power, a new faithfulness to your word, a new consecration to your service, and your love may grow among us, and your kingdom come, through Christ, our Lord, amen. Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of the Mi Saint Edward. Pray for us. Saint Dominic. Saint Bern the Dead Subaru. Pray for us. The venerable Margaret Sinclair. Pray for us. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you. Fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness, we have received the wine we offer you. Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink. Three sisters and brothers that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the Almighty Father. Grant we pray oh Lord that we may always find delight in these Paschal Easter mysteries. So that the renewal constantly at work within us may be the cause of our unending joy. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Lift up your heart. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation at all times to acclaim you oh Lord. But in this above all to praise you yet more gloriously. When Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. He never ceases to offer himself for us but defends us and never pleads our cause before you. He is the sacrificial victim who dies no more. The lamb once slain who lives forever. Therefore overcome with Easter joy every land, every people exults in your praise. Leaving the heavenly powers with the angelic hosts. Sing together the unending hymn of your glory as they acclaim. Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of hosts. Heaven and Earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. You are indeed holy oh Lord the fount of all holiness. Make holy therefore these gifts so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it. For this is my body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples saying, take this all of you and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood. The blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. The mystery of faith. When we eat this bread and drink this cup we proclaim your death oh Lord until you come again. Therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation. Giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spir it. Remember Lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity. Together with Francis our Pope, Joseph, our bishop, and all who minister and serve your people. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all we pray that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints, especially Saint Edward and Saint Bernadette Subaru, who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life. And may praise and glorify you, through your son, Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him, oh God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is yours, forever and ever. Amen. At the Saviour's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say, our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days. That by the help of your mercy we may be always be free from sin and save from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our saviour Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant our peace and unity, in accordance with your will, who live in reign, forever and ever. Amen. Peace of the Lord be with you always. Let's share a gesture of peace with one another. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the most holy sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I carry to this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as being already there and unite myself holy to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen. Behold the lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word of my soul shall be The Lord has risen and shone his light upon us whom he has redeemed by his blood. Alleluia. You pray sweet tones of called mercy Holy Prayer to Saint Joseph. Hail guardian of the Redeemer. Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only son. In you Mary placed our trust With you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph to us too. Show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain grace, mercy and courage and defend us from every evil. Amen. Let us pray. Hear, oh Lord, our prayers, that this most holy exchange, by which you have redeemed us, may bring your help in this present life. And ensure for us eternal gladness. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. Thank you very much for coming to Holy Mass. Do have a peaceful, joyful day. The Lord be with you. May almighty God bless you and all your loved ones. The Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. Go in peace to love and to serve the Lord. Holy
