- FancyFelToronto, Canada29 contributionsGood balance of history with modern practices of crime, punishment, issues and progress. Not optimistic but real. Width price of admission.Written April 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dream796922 contributionsDon't miss Independence Hall-the room where it happened. Interesting history place and great area to visit. Must have a timed ticket. Plan for that.Written April 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- packedandready2goCalifornia963 contributionsYou haven't really visited Philadelphia unless you have visited the Reading Terminal Market. So many kiosks with delicious food to choose from. Miller's pretzels is a must stop. We also enjoyed Original Turkey though I don't think you could go wrong no matter what you choose.Written April 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zoe1 contributionIt is a cultural attraction worth visiting. It not only displays a rich and diverse art collection, but also represents the culture and spirit of Philadelphia. Whether you are an art lover or an ordinary tourist, you can find your own artistic beauty here.Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - packedandready2goCalifornia963 contributionsThis is one of the world's best collections of impressionist paintings. The building is well designed. The only problem is that instead of wall mounted cards with information about the painting and the artist you have to use the Barnes website accessed via a qr code. This did not seem to work for about 25% of the paintings I scanned and I noticed other patrons having similar problems. That said, the art collection is spectacular.Written April 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- moonlotus18Hamilton, New Zealand1,762 contributionsWhat an amazing experience to see the bell up close and personal. We happened to come at a time when the queue was not long. Got our backpacks scanned through security and went in. I enjoyed reading the different displays about the significance of the bell before getting to see it for my self. What a spectacular icon and reminder of all it stands for.Written April 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kevin BMount Juliet, TN2,327 contributionsThere's so much history here and it's amazing! My wife and I hadn't been to Independence Hall since we were kids, so we took a detour on a recent trip back to PA and visited these sites. Independence National Historical Park covers many historical attractions in Old City and we were lucky enough to visit several of them. We booked a tour of Independence Hall (via recreation.gov) and it was a lovely tour. Our guide was knowledgable and entertaining and it's so humbling to be standing where The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution were signed and adopted. It really gives you chills. We also got to see the Liberty Bell and tour Christ Church. One of the highlights was definitely visiting Christ Church Burial Ground and seeing Benjamin Franklin's grave and Benjamin Rush's grave. There's just so much to see here and you really can't do it all in a day. I highly recommend coming here if you're a lover of American history!Written January 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - moonlotus18Hamilton, New Zealand1,762 contributionsA visit to Philly is not complete without seeing the statue and running up the steps. What an icon! The statue is easy to get to, have to wait in line to take photos but it moved quickly.Written April 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - pitt1998Arlington, VA10 contributionsThe Washington Field tent alone is worth seeing and the way it is presented is extremely well-done. Why do I give it only four stars instead of five?
While among the better museums in the area, it falls short in terms of the number of artifacts actually displayed. There is much to read within a well-organized, engaging presentation, but the lack of artifacts is why it isn't an A-rated "museum" and it often feels more like a very high-end "visitors center" with a small number of artifacts tacked on to make it a "museum". This is the same mistake that Gettysburg made when they built a new visitor center that actually displays fewer objects than the old center it was meant to replace.
The lack of a dedicated interpretation of the prison ships (HMS Jersey and others) is a major miss since more patriots died there (11,000+) than in all battles combined. In a future renovation, a section on the Jersey could be added to the existing Privateer ship display by placing it the hull below deck to allow visitors to feel the sense of being imprisoned there.
I like that it covered other aspects of the war (Indian involvement, foreign politics, etc.) and not as "battle focused" which is handled better by other museums at various battlefields. It allows one to get the bigger picture without getting bogged down.
The gift shop needs a refresh as they didn't have many unique colonial-themed items from around the area. They should take a page from Mount Vernon's amazingly varied inventory and displays.
I enjoyed my visit and recommend it for visitors, but not on days with school trips or in the summer. The museum's layout is simply not meant for large, loud groups and is best visited on weekdays in the off-season (winter) for a more enjoyable experience.Written January 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Xfinity Live is just across the street from home plate, it is a complex with restraunts and bars. Many picture oportunities throughout the park. Go to the 300 level 3rd base side all the way to the end, get a picture with the Phillies Liberty Bell overlooking Philadelphia.Written September 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PG DougMillersville, MD2 contributionsTook my 14 year old daughter. We had fun but I'd say this museum is best for kids up to 13 years old. The hourly tesla coil and machine/engineering interactive exhibit were hightlights.Written April 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ElfmaGreenwich, CT552 contributionsA beautiful tribute to this extraordinary artist, and a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. This is really a singular center hall with several small annexes, each of which has seating, books to browse on the artist, notebooks in which to sketch or leave your thoughts. Delightful.
Admission includes the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Sunday is "Pay What You Wish".Written November 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
